RM Auctions will host its famous Monterey event in California the weekend of August 17, and the car most will have their eye on is a 1962 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder.

The auction's staff expects the classic will sell for between $7.5 and $9 million, which is not too far fetched, considering DJ Chris Evans paid $10.9 million for a 1961 example in 2008.

The car that will go up on the block, chassis number 3119 GT, is an SWB, or short wheelbase example. It is one of 37 ever produced, though there were a total of over 100 California Spyders made between 1958 and 1963. All were designed by Pininfarina and coach-built by Scaglietti. Power came from Ferrari's 280-horsepower, 3.0-liter V12. The car has covered headlights and comes covered in the Rosso Corsa body paint and has a tan leather interior. The car was sold in Belgium and imported into the U.S. in 1970.

The car was shown at the 40th annual Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in 1990, where its restoration earned it a class award.
