Chevrolet has documented the story of how a 1965 Chevy Impala SS made its way back home to the Younger family after 20 long years. The video, compiled as part of the Chevy True Stories collection, outlines this great American feel good tale.
Herb Younger had bought the Impala new off the lot in the fall of 1964 with the last of his savings at the time. It was his dream car and the family had many fond memories associated with it over the years. However, in the late 80s, Herb chose to sell the car to raise funds for his sons’ private education. It was a decision that was the right one, but was still a sad moment as he had to part with his pride and joy.

Five years ago Jared and Derek Younger, Herb’s two sons, began a search for the original car in a quest that spanned several borders and turned up a few dead ends along the way. But finally, after even flirting with the idea of hiring a private investigator, the brothers hit pay dirt and located the family Impala at a Canadian dealership where it was up for sale. A quick phone call was made, and the 1965 Impala SS was on its way home in great condition.
The story was filmed by Chevy under the guise of a documentary that was being shot about three generations of an American family. Herb went along with it unaware of what was really going on. The look on Herb’s face when the Impala, with its 396 rumbling, rolls back into his life is priceless.
