New computer rendering, details on '08 Passat Coupe

German car magazine Auto Motor und Sport is convinced Volkswagen is readying a competitor to the Mercedes CLS in the form of a Passat Coupe. The so-called four-door-coupe will go on sale in 2008, according to the report. Engines are expected to range from a 170 horsepower four-banger to a 280-horse VR6. Picture right its the magazine's computer rendering of the car. The Leftlane Perspective: Either the magazine's artists are off the mark with this rendering, or VW is only half serious about competing with the CLS. The car pictured is nowhere near as striking or innovative as the Mercedes coupe. However, given the failure of the Phaeton in the U.S., VW may have decided to steer clear of Mercedes territory.
