Mercedes SLK to ditch SLR look for 2008?

The Mercedes SLK-Class is due for a facelift in under two years, according to a report by Germany’s Auto Strassenverkehr magazine. Apparently, the SLK 350 will be offered with a new 292 horsepower engine, up from 268 horses. While there is no mention of an SLK 63 AMG, Mercedes is widely expected to drop the new naturally-aspirated V8 into the roadster, replacing the SLK 55 AMG. (However, this could come sooner than the facelift). The exterior will be updated with new chrome treatments, but most importantly, a major change could be coming to the hood and grille. According to the magazine, the SLK will lose its SLR-inspired nose for a grille design that’s more in line with all the other Mercedes models. While the ‘mini SLR’ look has certainly been popular among some consumers, a number of enthusiast have pointed to the grille as one of the current car’s weaker points. (Pictured: 2006 Mercedes SLK55).

I like its sporty grille.

They’re going to change the grille to a more conservative look? Could be good or bad, as long as they do a good job of it.

Why dith the SLR-style grille? They should worry more about changing the interior, which has too much plastic, especially the cheap feeling window switches. Are there any updates to the SLK200 Kompressor 168hp engine?

AMG is wack anyway, the M models from BMW and the S and RS models from Audi are the way to go IMO

The SLR nose is the only interesting part of the car… the rest of the body is boring.

I have to agree with some of the previous posts… why change the nose ? It is the interior that should be updated/revised…. way too much plastic and not all that interesting for a sports car/roadster.

It’s stupid to change the hood and grill of current SLK. People like the F1 look nose. If any change required for 2008 ,it should be the hardtop roof to be with a sunroof or a glasstop .

The best thing about the SLK is the frontal appearance. They should change the silly back lights and the horrific interior. The front already looks much better than the outdated “double-circle” headlights of the SL. Some car makers are so idiotic

I could care less about the front apearance. How about chaning the icrappy nterior that looks more like a CLK or SL.
