Report: Mercedes planning stunning 300 SL Gullwing revival

Is Mercedes gearing up for a retro throwback of its own? The latest issue of Germany's AutoBild magazine features a cover story on an exciting new project reportedly underway at Mercedes -- the spiritual revival of the legendary 300SL Gullwing coupe. So far, we've only got a scan from the cover of the magazine, and details remain scarce. As with all future product renderings -- even from reliable sources -- the final design of such products often varies a lot from initial artists' sketches. Perhaps more important than the image itself, however, is the idea that Mercedes is planning to revive the Gullwing design. From this single image, it appears that the vehicle could slot somewhere between the SLK and the SL/CL models. We'll update you when more information becomes available.
