New season of Top Gear begins this weekend

A new season of what is perhaps the only mainstream automotive production worth paying any attention to begins Sunday. Top Gear returns with a new season May 7th on BBC Two. While this is great news for our friends across the pond, it doesn’t do much for us here in North America. Sure, folks will bootleg the TV show on internet video services, but it’s just not the same. Of course, the Americanized version of Top Gear is set to air on Discovery some time soon, but that’s no substitute for Clarkson & Co. If we’re lucky, perhaps a TV station here will eventually pick the show up. Until then, it’s YouTube for most Americans, we imagine.

Why doesn’t BBC America pick this show up? Are they too busy playing reruns of Cash in the Attic?

i don’t see what the trouble with the “american bashing” on top gear is that they have to edit it out on the discovery channel. I mean, clarkson is probably ten times more cruel to Germany on that show.

Take #1’s advice, then simply burn the DivX avi file to a standard CD-ROM and play it on your TV through your DVD player. Very simple, and you get the same digital quality as our friends over the pond.

He is not cruel to Germany at all. Now, can anyone tell me why my BMW nav system always steers me towards Poland? ;)

BBC has no adverts, so commercial-rich Discovery has to mangle whatever it airs. Clarkson raves on the high points of the Cayenne in one episode, but ultimately calls it pointless and bad. Discovery clipped everything after his review of the Porsche’s strengths, which completely changes the meaning of the segment. Ugh.

The torrents will continue at full force on Sunday!

I’m certain that the “Amercianized” version of the show that they will produce will be the same. Only lamer.
Just bring the original over here and stop wasting money fixing what isn’t broken.
