Chrysler skips 2006 model year for Crossfire

Chrysler decided not to bring any 2006 model year Crossfire roadsters or coupes to the United States due to extremely weak sales of the German-built car, according to Automotive News. Dealers reportedly have plenty of 2005 models left, and there was no need to bring over the 2006 Crossfire. Chrysler's COO did say a 2007 model would come to the U.S., but no details on possible changes were given. The Crossfire is based on the previous-generation Mercedes SLK-Class platform, and has sold poorly due to its high price. In March, AutoExpress reported that production of the car was near being halted. Recently, Reuters reported that Chrysler would pay the company that makes the Crossfire to reduce the contracted output volume.
