Mercedes Gullwing revival gains credibility

In May, we brought you a story from Germany's Autobild magazine about a possible revival of the Mercedes 300SL 'Gullwing' with a new 2010 model. The report indicated the car would be feature a 750 horsepower engine, 50:50 weight distribution, and pricing between the SL65 and next-generation SLR. In it's August issue, Automobile magazine features a cover story on the car, with the same artist's illustration from Autobild. While no new details are given, the fact that a second magazine has republished Autobild's story suggests insiders are confident the story is accurate. While we wouldn't put too much faith in the illustration itself, it looks like a Mercedes Gullwing supercar of some description will bow in the next few years. [See our original report here].
