August1
As previously reported, Volkswagen is planning to unveil the “Iroc” concept car in late August — a preview of the forthcoming Scirocco coupe. But another new Volkswagen may also make its debut this month. According to the latest issue of Motor Trend, VW may be getting ready to bring a model smaller than the Rabbit to the North American market. The magazine suggests the car could use the Fox nameplate. In June, Canadian Driver reported that VW would launch a new model in August that is “even less expensive” than the Rabbit. Stay tuned…

Europe already gets the brazillian built Fox but it’s not brilliant
Let’s hope its the Concept R. That’s a reasonable compact VW.
Could this be the car that’s going to be the basis for the Dodge Hornet, also?
I heard VW decided against a CHrysler tie-up
It could be a rebodied Polo or maybe a rebadged Skoda
The Fox (aka Polo in Europe?) is one of the possibilities. Its a 2 door hatchback thats smaller than the Golf/Rabbit. The Polo GTi is pretty nice. I wonder if we get the Polo/Fox we could maybe get that.
Also, from “Car and Driver”, they said the sub-Rabbit car might be a hatchback but a 2 door sedan. Wasn’t the original Fox like this?
FOx and Polo are 2 distinct models, original Fox was the VW Derby which was a Polo sedan
Fox is the South American built replacement for Lupo here in Europe. Polo is the next car up the range, then comes Golf. Perhaps they’re talking about the next Polo which should be due soon since the current one is getting a bit long in the tooth.
TM VW wants a cheap older platform that they can rebody as they know Americans will buy this like they do with the Ford Focus and those rebodied old Mazdas the Fusion/Milan/MKz triplets

I want a Skoda Roomster its so kewl
Dear everyone, I am sorry I was such a narrow minded fool, I finally got my learners permit today, and my uncle let me drive his honda civic, compared to my moms sunfire, my mind has been changed about GM, you wont see another post about me shamelessly saluting GM. If I do, or my alter alias GMrules, Just ignore it
If only REAL GMrules said that, id be the happiest man on earth!
Or GM number 1-4ever or Anonymous!
Seriously the GM Rules factor on this site is almost definitely turning everyone to different sites. I swear he’s actually part of a news investigation on how to provoke physical violence through comments on blogs.
Yah, might be the Lupo.
[...] Leftlane reports that VW may be releasing another new compact car later this month, a model that would actually be smaller and cheaper than the Rabbit. Some speculate it may be dubbed “The Fox”. [...]
I drove the VW Fox/Polo in Mexico and it isnt that bad is a verygood looking car for the price and the money, lets see what VW brings to the US
if it’s price around 15K with the badge TDI I wouldn’t mind buying it. Although I wish they bring that ECO racer concept of theirs. I would buy it in a heart beat (gotta be >18K).
Well I am not sure if this will be a new model or the rumored Golf City that will be a plain jane version of the 4th Gen Golf that is supposed to be sold for $14,000 Canadian.
I really hope the Polo comes this way though!
BRING ME MY F’N GX3!!!!
Might be the City models.Whatever.I’ll grab one.
If it is the earlier model Jetta(City),it would be a stroke of genius.THAT was a prime nicely designed Jetta.Very clean good lines.I like the body of it better than the latest one.
This is too good.I just looked at VW South Africa. They are still making what was known as the original Rabbit/Golf.Too bad that car is not sold in America.Americans probably wouldn’t go for it,though.I’d buy one on the next working day, myself. It is not exactly like the first original American /Canadian model obviously, but it is an A1 chassis(from looking at it)and it has some nice snappy sharp detail upgrades.Finding this car is like an ‘Alice In Wonderland’ rabbit hole discovery. The South African VW Citi Golf is one of the most intriguing cars on the planet.A Sinn Fein staff car if Sinn Fein was still active(not to glamourize the violence).
Peace through cozy sweaters and nifty cars…
