Ford cancels new V8 for Lincoln MKS

Ford has cancelled plans to put a V8 engine in its forthcoming Lincoln MKS sedan, according to trade publication Automotive News. The engine -- a 4.4-liter V8 derived from the Yamaha powerplant used in the Volvo XC90 and S80 -- was slated for production at Ford's Lima, OH engine plant. But in recent days, the automaker reportedly decided to kill the program as a cost-cutting measure, the report said. Ford had planned to build as many as 100,000 units annually. The struggling automaker will now rely solely on its 3.5-liter V6 to power the MKS. Back in May, Ford issued a survey asking consumers which features they would prefer with the sedan. Among the choices were a naturally aspirated V8 or a Turbo V6. This seems to suggest Ford may get creative with its V6 in order to compete with the V8 offerings of its rivals.
