Production of the Ford GT supercar has ended. The last car was built late Thursday at the Wixom Assembly Plant, for a total run of 4,038 units. Ford announced it would be discontinuing the GT as part of its “Way Forward” plan earlier this year. The GT was first shown in concept form in 2002, and a production version was readied within 15 months. Power comes from a 550 horsepower V8, with a top speed in excess of 200 mph. Zero to 60 mph is accomplished in 3.3 seconds. The MSRP for the car was $150,000, thought buyers typically paid as much as $175,000. Commemorative gallery after the jump…















you cant appreciate this car until you are next to one on the street. beautiful car. good job ford. sorry to see it go. now make a smaller lighter version and put a ~250hp I4 in it. make it look just like this and price it $25k and watch the money come rolling in.

This car has so much more impact when you see it in person. Just curious, does anyone think the car had a halo effect for Ford?
Being a Ford salesperson, I don’t think the car had a halo effect for sales. But it did have a great effect on the image of Fords peformance to the consumer. It gave us salespeople something to talk about and showoff. It probably also brought up the spirits of the UAW and other Ford employees.
Once Ford gets back on it’s feet it will be able to compete in this segment again.
A very impressive car, and for the money, one of the best exotic cars in the world.

In a word, No.
A lot of Ford “glorifies the past when the future dries up” (from U2’s “God Part2″)
Viper did so much more for Dodge than this expensive retro toy did for Ford.

A good car, the only Ford car that I can say I genuinely like/liked.

Of all the cars to cut from production I really have to wonder why they HAVE TO stop building the Ford GT. It’s an excellent halo vehicle. Whatever they want to say about exclusivity, it would be better to retain this supercar in their lineup.
The Shelby Mustang GT500 just went up several notches, and it’s got nothing on this car.

I’d say no halo effect at all. It’s an amazing car, but it shows a lack of imagination. The guys who built the original GT40 were some bad mofos and whipped some Ferrari ass at LeMans.
This thing is a toy for rich old guys to drive their trophy wives around in and relive the “good old days”.
The sad fact is nobody is interested into stepping into a Ford dealer unless they are:
A-Soccer mom looking for SUV
B-billy bob looking for pickem-up truck
C-mullet wearer looking for Mustang
D-rental fleet buyer (ok I know they don’t go through dealers but you get the point, ford’s lineup is B-O-R-I-N-G.)

mblommel, though your comments are HUGELY generalized and stereotypical, I would totally agree with the mom/SUV statement, the pickup statement (though not necessarily a hick buying one, since it seems like everyone who doesn’t need a pickup these days have them), i’d agree with the mustang statement but only in that they sell well, not necessarily to hicks again, and definately the rental fleet comment, as everyone knows, ford makes a lot of money on rental fleets selling cars that noone would buy otherwise.
