Russian billionaire and parliamentarian Suleiman Kerimov was in critical condition this weekend after crashing his black Ferrari Enzo in Nice on the French Riviera. The car split in half after striking a tree, and subsequently burst into flames.
The accident is the latest in a string of high-profile Enzo crashes over the past 12 months that have destroyed four of the $1 million cars. The specific cause of Kerimov’s crash is not yet known.
Kerimov was “seriously injured,” according to a hospital spokesman. He was transported to Marseille’s major burns center following the accident. A female passenger was also hospitalized with injuries. [Photo credit]. Full image after the jump…

it gets broken in half like a toy because it was designed to. you’ll notice that the passenger compartment is fully intact in every crashed enzo, just like they intended. the engine is likely to catch on fire in an accident (since nearly all are high speed in this car), so getting the engine away from passengers would be the primary objective.

The car performed as intended during the crash, as Zorlox said. In a crash such as this, I wouldn’t want to be in any car other than an Enzo.
Kenny, with all due respect, there is no need for that kind of comment on an enthusiast site. This is not a debate about how it looks. The car was designed for a specific function, and there’s not much that can match it in executing that function. Yes, it looks a bit like a high-speed aardvark, but you have to see it for what it is, and in that, it’s beautiful.

If they can classify cars for insurance reasons why not just add one more thing. and depending on the performance level the owner/drivers must take a certain training course. it seems scary that anyone with a $1mil can go and buy a Bugatti and drive past me at +250mph. on a side note…I live in the same town as Mario Andretti…has passed me this weekend in a Lambo Murcielago going well over 100mph.

Andre Neves,
In terms of pure speed my car is in no way shape or form superior to the Enzo. In terms of driving excitement, I’d put it up to the Enzo any day of the week. The Enzo is a car that 99% of the population couldn’t even enjoy at 6/10’s its capabilities. While I can drive my car at 9/10’s its respectable performance. As for its looks, well…those are subjective. So if you wish to disagree with me, that is your right. I still think the Enzo is one ugly car and there is no love lost over a crashed one. Ferrari has gone downhill since the 550/575M and this is the epitome of that downhill spiral.
As an auto enthusiast I think we sometimes loose perspective. It’s only a car, it can be replaced. The man, on the other hand, is in critical condition and can not be replaced.

“Ferrari has gone downhill since the 550/575M and this is the epitome of that downhill spiral.”
—I couldnt DISagree more with this statement Kenny. I agree that the 550/575 was one of the finest Ferrari ever made - but the modern variants are the most electrifying and capable cars made today. For me, I prefer simple and traditional versus high-tech so I still prefer a 355 to a 430 and an F50 to an Enzo but I can still recognize that the later versions are FAR superior cars - not to mention the fact they are more reliable than any prior Ferrari in terms of engine rebuilds and other major maintenance.
And as for the 575 replacement, the 599GTB, well its as fine a car as they’ve EVER made - a truly unique and beautiful exterior with the performance to match an Enzo(0-100 in 6.8)…
So DOWNHILL SPIRAL?? NO! HIGH-TECH which can take away some of the pure fun?? Yes.

Ferrari does pick their customers very carefully. This Enzo was probably a resale (As all originals went to very well qualified customers). Many folks including yourself will say that they can drive better than someone else however we don’t know the logistics of this particular crash, and therefore should not be judging this particular persons driving ability (which almost certainly is higher than yours). and your comment about horsepower is almost completely irrellevant as horsepower is not your definitive factor in how difficult it will be to drive. Take an early porsche 911 the turbo was making 220 horsepower i believe and behaved through a corner like a hammer being thrown into the air, Heavy side first. As a corporation such as ferrari you would be much more worried about wether or not you would have repeat business from these people who crash not wether your product is still in tact.

haha yea i know what you mean Jaguar Sovereign, equal horspower can seem very different depending on the car, and the early turbos are an excellent example for this. but the enzo should handle a bit safer than those porsches esp with all those traction control systems and stuff(if he had them turned on). im guessing he just reached the limits of the car and wasnt able to control it, as its probably quite difficult to catch an MR car with that much grip after you upset it haha. its just sad to see another enzo down lol. i still think hes a ****ty driver cause after all he did wreck the enzo quite violently. oh well at least he got screwed for it

In fact, if I remember correctly the Russian ‘parliment’ not too long ago approved of policy that makes the assasination of those it considers to be ‘extreme’ ok. Now, I am not saying that this is a LIKELY case, but it does not take too active of an imagination to consider it a possibility.

just find me a Ferrary with 100,000 miles. I’m a fan of motorsport, so my comment about Ferrari is not just being biased toward BMW, but I know plenty of original (E30) M3s with that kind of milege. You could say that this cars are from different class, but originaly M3 was made as a competition car, then it become avail. for the market. Ferrari also has great racing history, but my point being they’re not as reliable sa some other cars. I’m not judging their styling, I find it attractive, as they’re built by the same company (Pininfarina) as was FIAT Coupe and Peugeot 406 Coupe. But I grew up in Europe and I know how ‘reliable’ FIATs are.
