Rumor: Land Rover planning crossover coupe

Ford's Land Rover division is planning an affordable "off-road coupe" as part of a plan to reach out to young buyers, according to a report by the U.K.'s Autocar.

Like the forthcoming BMW X6, the new Land Rover will have a highly sloped roofline and relatively little cargo space. Unlike the X6, however, the new LR will have just two doors, instead of four.

A concept version of the crossover could arrive in as few as 18 months. So far, the only automaker to preview a vehicle from this emerging segment is Volkswagen, with its Concept A (pictured).
