Bring it over. whoo to the ha. This thing stomps all the other minis visually. I’d take one in a heartbeat….looks like too much fun to drive. Release the GTi version first…keep it at or under $15K. Then start to sell the standard Polos once the branding gets accepted. I don’t understand why VW doesn’t do the Polos here.

Zan you are corret sir. in the US market the GTI name does not apply across the board. i thought the discussion was based on European models and, more specifically, their hatch line up. i agree that they are marketed differently over here. i also must admit that, as a current GTI owner, it doesn’t thrill me when people call it a Golf. sorry, but it is a bit of a different animal.

As far as I’m concerned, this car is the closest thing to a Golf GTI from the 80′s. They keep sticking with FWD and under or at 200HP in a car that weighs over 3000lbs.

The Golf/Rabbit R32 series are a totally different car. Perfect.

The regular Golf GTI doesn’t seem like a good value to someone who wants a small economy sportmobile that actually moves.

Bring on the 180 Horsepower Polo GTI or give us the supercharged turbo 1.4L 170HP engine.

I see people saying stupid stuff like “it looks like a geo metro and a chevy aveo” Guess where those cars came from in the first place. And also europe has been doing small hatches forever its nothing new. Also why would you put a wing on such a small car? Ignorant comments as usual from the suv/pick up driving nation.

If VW could price it right, I think they would have a hit here. I know the Polo is available as a 5-door as well (and a sedan for those Americans not liking hatches) VW should look into an entry level car like this, nice styling and I think would beat the pants off any YAris or Scion in performance.

Hey you can’t talk to me that way I drive a Metro and it has helped me to pick up lots of fly women – but I do think a big wing spoiler couldn’t hurt on this new GTI, or any car for that matter, and maybe a fart can.

GTIguy if they followed that GTI as “M badge” type thing here in the US it would make more sense, but there isnt a GTI version of the jetta they chose to call it the GLI and it wasnt any differant it was just an options package that excluded the luxury items and added the sport items, Id rather just get a GLX fully loaded.

I see what your saying, but they market it differantly, just like the Jetta in Germany was the Bora, but now its also the Jetta and the Golf here is now the Rabbit.

I can’t tell you how many times I have heard a GTI owner defend his car saying its not a Golf.

I think they borrowed some cues from the Geo Metro, it looks like it’s about the same size, but I guess if you threw a big wing spoiler on there that might differentiate it from the Metro or the Honda Fit.

i would have to agree with “ss” that this would be a great entry level beater in the US market. #2, try not to be confused, i think the GTI nameplate operates much like “M” and “AMG.” i think they just use it as a performance moniker for their hatches.

They make this confusing. The GTi is really the Golf GTI, but here in the US they market it as the GTI as if its a differant car and now in germany they have a Polo GTI.

vw def should bring this over! it would kill the yaris, fit, xA and prob keep up with the Mini Cooper S, but priced right between the two groups. DO IT VW!
