its still in heavy disguise, well i havent seen any decent images yet but im sure it wont be ugly lol, the new M5 turned out to be a beast and with these wider arches, deep valances, 4 pipes and large wheels it could still be amazing, i dont wanna sat anything till i see the real deal but i dont think an M car will be ugly enough to not want 1, damn i cant wait!

I agree with Chris that historically the 330ci was 10k less than the M3. But the e46 M3 had a lot in common with the 330ci including an M-tuned version of the 330ci I6.

The e92 M3 shares the same look at the 335 but it changes out many body parts for CF parts and has a new M designed V8. As with all M’s most of the other parts, such as suspension, are always upgraded. With all those upgraded parts the e92 M3 has many more changes from the 335 than the e46 M3 had from the 330ci. So I think the 10k price increase may be not fit here. 15k seems closer to what I think will happen.

At only 10k over a 335 the potential 335 buyers will flock to the M3 since they are getting so much more for only 10k. In the e46 M3 days the 10K wasn’t pulling buyers to the next level because many of the parts were the same. If someone said for 10K I get all the M parts, a new 400HP V8 and CF roof I would think that’s a steal. At these prices a stripped down M3 is the same as a completely decked out 335. Even in the 330ci days a decked out 330ci wouldn’t equal a stripped down M3 (it would get close, but not equal).

Awesome, looks like the 3 series is going to retain its crown as the best sports sedan on the market for yet another 5 years. Nothing offers the model range, the performance, the build quality or the solidity of the 3. Others have tried, but they still can’t match it.

but then again everyone on the forums thought the 335i was going to msrp $4-5000 more than it really came out to be, and the last m3 was 10k more than the 330ci, so i think its a rather believable (maybe not totally accurate) estimate

Carbon Fiber is stronger against flex then Aluminum, it’s as strong as steel. So it adds to the rigidity of the car. Also, Carbon Fiber is a bit lighter and with newer technology and the price of aluminum, almost the same cost.

andre, there is no way that they are going to change their mind on anything, it only a few months away. Changing the motor would require re-engineering the entire driveline, suspension, and most of the computer controls. And also the specs would seem to be fairly accurate as they would fit perfectly in with the rest of the M/// lineup

I’m so excited by this car. Corvette Guy people need to be still since those people hardly get the point. 400HP in a production sedan used to mean something, but in a pedestrian coupe it means something else entirely. The carbon fiber roof has me excited but I think the RS4 , M3 (M4 really in everything but name) will be fantastic. I can’t wait to see what the reviews bring, I’d like to see some silly rock climber race this. I need a promotion.

A V8 M3 sounds nice….. but this is an age in which you can prove almost anything works with better technology. Nissan does it with their turbocharged engines, Mazda keeps improving the rotary, Ford makes DOHC musclecar engines…… why can’t BMW make a simple 3 series without the luxury that shbowcases another fantastic inline-6?

Call me crazy but it’s always been their calling card to me. The best inline-6 engines in the world, including Motorsport versions.

I don’t understand why they use CF instead of Aluminum?

I know that on my Evo MR, it comes with an Aluminum Roof, Hood, Fenders, Door beams, & Suspension(control arms,Links Crossmembers, Stab. bars, etc.) for weight purposes. People have weighed some of those parts in Carbon fiber and found the Aluminum ones to be lighter ex. Hood/Fenders.

Is it a Cosmetic thing?

umm…I don’t understand how people know the specs/weights of the car already. I mean, that IS why they are testing it. The car can change drastically without any of the public knowing. Dunno where everyone gets their info from. Nobody knows for sure that it is going to be heavier than the last, unless you work over at BMW in Germany. Until then we can just speculate.
I’ve seen 400hp, 412hp, 450hp ratings giving for it already…that’s a 50hp innacuracy. Big difference.
Heck, if anything, they might even change their minds on the engine they’re going to use halfway through testing. It’s been done before by other manufacturers.

At $60k, I’d much rather have a z06 for another 5k. Paying too much for the BMW name. Hell you can get 400hp from a GTO for around $30k.

I don’t see it costing that. The current car costs $49,000 and really don’t think that BMW will up the price by only $5,000 especially since they fitted it with a V8, and with more standard equipment than the last M3. Also, since the car is heavier, they had to compensate for a lot of changes to the basic ‘sportiness’ of the car to not only make it as faster than the last car, but also handle better. I think a price near $60,000 (high 50’s) seems more like it.
