2007 Chevrolet HHR Panel revealed

General Motors today unveiled the 2007 Chevrolet HHR Panel, designed for a various commercial and private uses. The HHR Panel features windowless side panels and rear cargo doors in place of conventional rear doors. A flat load floor provides more than 57 cubic feet of cargo space, along with approximately 6 cubic feet (170 L) of additional covered, under-floor storage.

“The HHR Panel is a model unlike anything else in the segment, and it continues HHR’s mission of offering customers a bold, expressive, functional and different vehicle,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. “It’s great for delivery companies and other small businesses, but we think auto enthusiasts will love it too, as it gives them a large canvas on which to express their individuality.”

HHR Panel production is expected to start late in the first quarter of 2007. It will be offered in LS and LT trims, with 2.2L and 2.4L engines – both of which help the HHR deliver 30 mpg in highway driving. “Business customers will see great value in the HHR Panel,” said Peper. “There aren’t many vehicles designed for commercial use that provide 30 mpg.”

I can see where it’d be useful as a light utility vehicle however; with the right amount of aftermarket parts and add-ons this could definately be a cool little car for younger people. Give me a V8 option and I might be in on that deal!

I can’t beleive Chrysler didn’t do this with the PT Cruiser years ago. Seems like incremental sales would be better than no sales.

The rumours out of DCX is they couldn’t seem to sell the Mini-Ram/Caravan CV cargo version back in the 80’s and 90’s and that mentality stuck with the PT.

Saw a few PT’s at SEMA as 2-door cargo units, most with tacky interiors like a 70’s rolling sex machine, but they never hit big either.

The larger, ’squarer’ Chevy may have something. May.

Dude surfs up! I’ve never ever considered a GM – especially a skanky Chevy HHR but this looks excellent. Make it a woody, give it AWD and I’ll take 2:-)

Kind of the anti to the XB. This is a good move by GM.
Some will hate it no doubt, but thats ok. It will raise emotions and that is usually a good thing, unless you’re an Aztec.

Why is it that people like Jon always think anything remotely wagon-like looks like a hearse? I’ve heard many people describe the HHR and the PT Cruiser as a hearse. What kinds of hearses have THEY been looking at?

But I agree with most of the rest of you that this looks like a good move on GM’s part. It does look awfully useful, and I suspect that the HHR, and the Cobalt (upon which it’s based) are both going to prove to be very reliable cars. They certainly are put together nicely.

It sure won’t be getting 30 mpg anywhere at anytime if the 57 cu. ft cargo area is full of stuff, as it most likely will be with commercial buyers.

Yeah 30 mpg is not going to happen when it is full of stuff but just think that no other cargo vehicle in this segment can even get 30 mpg when empty. Full of stuff maybe this will only get 25 or so mpg which is still very good.

Maintance costs should be low and it will look pretty stylish with some logos on the back in vinyl. Set up an agressive commercial lease program and plenty of businesses that need to haul light goods will snape these up.

It’s a good idea. It’s true that gas mileage will probably drop with additional weight. Still, there’s nothing wrong with this concept, so hope GM does well with that. Someone mentioned that people use Scions for this type of utility? How in the world is that dinky little 1.5L engine going to tote anything worth it’s weight? At least with a 2.4L or something like this, it’ll have a little more grunt to make sure it’s doesn’t peter out with a couple of people carrying 400 lbs of stuff.

I don’t get it.

I mean, it looks nice. But the only people that buy windowless vans and SUVs are kidnappers and child molesters. And I’m pretty sure most of them wont have the cash to blow on something like this, so what’s the point at all?

Now it really looks like one of those old milk wagons. I like it, but I’m wondering if it would feel claustrophobic inside without the rear side windows. Could be the next “shaggin’ wagon” for the teenagers.

Comment: 90Z…If it was topheavy, it wouldn’t have been past production…The sprinter has been successful for years in europe and many car manufactures like ford/gm in europe have created similar vans with the same height and length…

well folks what you are seeing here is what we called a sedan delivery in the day. I own one, a 56 chevy, built on a station wagon frame with some extra heavy duty springs for hauling stuff. they only made about 7,443 of these and they command a good buck today. its a blast to drive ,yes it does have blind spots but what a stereo system you can put in it . its not for every one but its different and that makes its cool in my book. .cars have all looked the same for so long….

I don’t really have a problem with the Sprinter.It is freaky Euro-neat.I probably would buy one if I was a trades person.An odd lorry or whatever.Entertaining,though.
