Comments on: 2007 Ford Shelby GT announced; on sale in January

I think most of you are missing the point. The Shelby GT is not about ultimate performance, it’s about continuing the legend of Shelby. Sure the GT500 has more power (for a much higher price), but the GT is a nice way to fill the gap between a Mustang GT and a Shelby GT500. It doesn’t NEED more than 325 HP. The people likely to buy the car will love the fact that it is an authentic Shelby. It will fit in with the older Shelby Mustangs at car shows across the country.

This is my first post and my last. You ignorant SOBs. Go buy your rice burners and put NOPI stickers all over them. There are some of us still around that are proud of our American made cars and understand the reasons why our American car makers are in the situation they are in. I am a die hard Ford fan but I would rather see you in a cheby or a freaking pontiac than a rice burner.

And for those of you that don’t know the Corvette is a two sitter and cost way more than the GT or Shelby GT. do your math and don’t be so ignorant.

I think its a step in the right direction. Because of the New Mustang look and popularity it has caused the other auto makers to come out with there own version of a muscle car. So what if this Shelby GT is only 325hp, Im sure there will be lots of cool things to add to it and make it faster. The good thing about “only 325hp”, the insurance people might not jack us so bad.

I like the looks of the car and the fact it is a real Shelby. It is built (or updated) in Shelby’s plant. The GT500 is built in Ford’s plant.
I just hope they price it reasonably and idiots don’t mark up the price. All we need is something else just for the rich folks.

What ford needs to do is drop that hunk of junk 4.6L and kick the group of guys that came up with the 4.6. It makes a good cop car motor but not for the ’stand go old school v8. True a 5.0(stock) could not beat a vette. but if you add the price differents between the two, then you would here the chevy guys cry(myself included). Ford does not need to go with the 5.0. Try a 351 400 or just for fun big block anyone. Oh yes one will fit nice and tight but will fit. Oh thats right ford is trying to be like G.M. Well stop it. You see how well G.M.is doing, NOT!

While I must say I like the Camaro and Challenger concept, I am also disappointed that the US car industrie has lost its b*lls. They are mearly taking an old model and modify it into something ‘newer’.

I going in the Shelby show to Detroit in 1983 and i spoke with Caroll Shelby for awile! and i going to on the Shelby show in Susex county in 1985, I’ll see all the most and beautyfull muscle car aroun the world! the new modèle is really nice and remember me that moments! 0h, Yeah! Bravo!!

Guys relax at least they are putting out fresh things and this is only the begging. If 325 hp is bothering you just be patient the Mach 1 and a Boss will follow suit as well as a GT-350.

Don’t complain about choices it was not long ago when we had just a four banger and a 5.0

yeah Gt’s under rated some… I duno by 340 hp but I believe Jay’s right.
I like the Mustang myself, but I don’t like the Camaro. The Challenger is ehh, ok.
I also agree with Jay that the pony car craze will probably be over by the time the Mustang is redesigned some time before 2010, and on Jay’s opinion about next generations of retro cars. It’s sad about these cars they’re currently making, too bad.

dont make me laugh…the ford mustang GT is underrated? there was a video on streetfire that shows a mustang GT against the IS350. well the GT lost and then it crashed, but the point is the mustang GT isnt even that great (for a V8) and this shelby GT with 325 is seriously the work of badge engineering. the name shelby shouldnt be on there…

I still beg for a Mach mustang… that was an awesome car. This doesn’t fill in the gap between GT500 and GT, needs like 380, 420 hp somewhere in that range. But the Mustangs are almost all under rated on the dyno.
I still want a Mach version… But Ford DOES NOT NEED ANY MORE COPIES OF IT’S MUSTANG! But seeing how much you guys read about the new ones, it does keep the enthusiasm very high (for the Mustang and the upcoming pony cars in general).
By the time the Mustang is redesigned, the Camaro and Challenger will be out. The pony car craze will slowly fade, and GM and DCX will be left in the dust by the NEW Mustang. Don’t get me wrong, retro isn’t totally bad. But when everyone goes retro, then where will we be moving foward?
Do you think in the future people will be making retro cars of the current cars available? From now, the 90’s, 80’s, and late 70’s? I don’t think so.
The Pt cruiser, and the Prowler were retro cars from a time when automobile technology was being pioneered.
The Mustang, upcoming Camaro and Challenger were retro cars from when a time when the automobile was being refined, and the consumer of the product influenced the design of the cars greatly.
The retro cars of the future copying today, IF there are any (which I doubt), will be retro cars from a time (now, 90’s and 80’s) when the automobile fell into a great depression, and the profits were more important than the consumer.
Of course this is just my opinion, but I feel many people will agree with me. There probably will not be retro cars in the future of the cars of today, they are neither pioneering, refined or amazing. They are boxes, toasters, undefined.
There was a time when you didn’t have to pay 1,000,000$ for an amazing car. There was a time when every ordinary car was designed with passion, quality, and fun in mind.
Now, they’re designed with blandness, low quality, and COSTS in mind, not the consumer.
Anyways by the time the Camaro and Challenger come out, the pony car craze will be over.

Ford is still planning on making the Boss Mustang. It is in this month’s Motor Trend magazine. It is said to be going back to a 5.0 Liter which will produce 390hp. It suppose to be out next year to hold over until the new redesigned Mustang comes out in 2008 (or2009). 390hp will put it right next to the Camaro when it returns with 400hp

When I heard about this car I was PISSED. For one reason.. if Ford thinks this is all they need to do to bridge the gap of the GT and GT500 they are crazy.
I’ve been hearing of a new Mach or Boss coming and if they trash the idea because of this car it will really tick me off. I was going to get a shelby (had one ordered) untill I was told of how much they wanted markup (16k). So when I heard of the Mach or Boss (which was supposed to have between 390-400hp) I was very pleased and anxious to see it and probably pick one up.

If this is all the have to fill that gap.. MAN i’ll be dissapointed! I love mustangs but 25hp increase is PATHETIC to bridge a gap.

Can’t I pick up the extra 25hp for about $2000 by going through the parts bins at Ford Racing Parts? I agree with e30e, they should have put it somewhere in 400hp range and limited it to White/Blue Stripes, Blue/White stripes and then called it a Shelby package.

I hate to break it to the first person posting there… but the the 500 horsepower gt500 really only competes with a base corvette. If you don’t believe me dig it up on caranddriver.com or something like that… you’ll realize it’s about as fast as a base corvette.

… and 25 hp is not worthwhile, like ya’ll mentioned.

It must have more hp and torque, and let me explain my reasoning. The GT Mustang is under rated for it’s hp. 5.0 Mustangs and Super Fords recently dynoed a new GT to 287 rwhp and 305 rwtq. Thats somewhere around 340 horsepower and around 360 lb.ft of torque at the flywheel. So… this car must get more than that, which is decent. But still it’s on 25 hp more than the GT, so it’s still not much different from GT. So how does it fit between the GT500 and GT? 25 more hp from GT isn’t really a good median for GT500 and GT.
I hope, I wish they don’t make mark ups on this car. This is a really good looking, fairly fast car. But more variations of the Mustang are not “Bold Moves”.
They’re labeling it a “bold move” to ADVERTISE the car. They call EVERY car they have a bold move for something as simple as 4WD or slightly different styling from other offerings. It’s simply for ADVERTISING, it attracts consumers and fans, and makes big buck$ for Ford. I see GM doing more to move foward, while Ford is stuck with this ad campain

e30e—Along with the upgrade in power, there is a reduction in weight. Iagree there should be more power, like at least 350bhp.

325bhp is nothing to sneeze at at its price point. If the car is lighter than a regualr GT, it will handle better. This variant will no doubt hold its value better than a standard GT as well.

Someone explain to me the niche of this new shelby gt with 325 horsepower fits with the mustang gt (300 horsepower) and gt500 (500). Its 25 freakin horsepower, does it get a different cam, new epu, or free flowing exhaust? How about with the 325 horespower, whats the torque numbers now? Ford has created another mustang to sell the masses, smart of them, dumb of people to buy it. The only true difference between a gt and shelby is body cladding, hood, and 25 f’n horsepower. Ford a “real” niche would of been a 400 horsepower mustang that competes with the c6 corvette and the gt500 that competes with the zo6. Good job ford on constantly “upgrading” the mustang and brainwashing consumers into believing this mustang is anything special compared to last years “upgrade”.
