Final certification testing of the Shelby GT500’s 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 shows it will produce 500 horsepower and 480 lb.-ft. of torque — 25 more horsepower than original estimates. The 500 hp rating was obtained using the Society of Automotive Engineer’s latest standard and was witnessed by an objective third party. The right to purchase the first 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 was auctioned for $600,000, with the proceeds benefiting the Carroll Shelby Children’s Foundation. The 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 goes on sale this summer. See our full report on the GT500 here.

Sweet. I’m loving this thing. How did it gain 25hp since the concept?

The original numbers were an estimate. 500 is the actual tested HP of the production model.

$600,000 for the first right for one. OMG whoever fell for that one should be examined by a neurologist.
The car 50 years from now won’t be worth 600k, unlike the original GT500.

Nice car indeed, but everyone is forgetting that Ford is planning to produce only 7,500 of these every year …
And demand is extra high, basically all GT500 are already spoken for and from what I can read in all Mustang forums (I own a 2005 Mustang GT), no one so far has reported any GT500 under MSRP P-L-U-S 15K…

I honestly doubt that the GT500 will be responsible for F***ing the environment.
Also, there are people (like me) that can appreciate a sport car in a vaste sea of dull, boring sedans/SUVs/trucks. For true sport cars fans, a vehicle like this GT500 is not some sort of appliance that has four wheels and can bring you from point A to point B, but instead it IS the point.

I’m hearing that the market price on the car is $50-60k. It won’t look like every other Mustang on the road. the dude paid $600,000…#1. To get the first production model (which _will_ probably be worth nearly what was paid for it someday, cause anyone with that kinda coin is putting it on display) #2. The monies did go to charity, so it wasn’t the car bringing that much it was for a charitable cause.

Ugly. Regardless of hp, it’s difficult to justify paying over 50k for a Mustang or a Ford, the GT excluded. But I suppose there will be more than 7500 suckers that will snatch these up a year.

I totally agree Al. And you are right. I already ordered mine from Miller Brothers Ford in Maryland. It was NOT under MSRP. But, than again, it’s not 15k above MSRP.This is going to be the absolute best ’stang ever produced by Shelby and SVT. Shelby and SVT put together make a hell of a team!!! I just can’t wait to get out on the road, put the top down, and just cruise like I own the road. It is going to be absolutely wonderful.

Actually a video on the net said they will make 7,500 Shelbys a year for sure but if the demand is high enough they will make 10,000 a year so there wont be a shortage of them trust me so the car will go down in value in a year or 2 for sure.

And one more thing they said the same thing about the 06 Z06 they will make only 6 to 7 thousand of them a year and they will be hard to get but every chevrolet place i go too has one or can get me one its going to be the same thing with the Shelby.
