I personally think this car is ugly. When I first saw it, my first thought was “ew, that’s the new CRV?” I think the redesigned Toyota RAV4 looks MUCH better.

So far, I like the looks of the new CRV–but looks are deceiving as I have found. From the photos, drive bys and reports, I had my heart set on ordering a 4 x 4 sport 6 cyl. until I sat & drove a RAV4 (06)this week. Cheesy inside–seats are narrow, short, cheapy fabric on seats and top of door panel, knobs look like they will fall off on radio/CD, the shift lever is not quality either, the glove box area is a small storage area with a button that pops it open which (I predict) won’t last very long. Oh, wait till you try and position your seats–how backward the levers to go up and down–maybe the Limited with the 6 way power seat alleviates all of that. Where is all the space they say exists on the RAV4? They say it will sell rings around the new CRV. Must just be outside eye appeal because side, front and back (especially the Sport’s 18″ alloy wheels), etc. are nice looking–the ant. however is a disaster. Just like Saturn’s VUE, the outside is appealing, but when you get into it—how disappointing. No quality like Honda. I love my 1999 CRV–yes, it lacks a lot–but it is comfortable–not bad looking on the outside and very functional the way it is–good planning and plenty of space for me, nice fabric. It could have a little more power, but the new model should have enough for me. The RAV4 reports I read by almost everyone say it is spacious, comfortable, on and on–ha!!!! Now, who must have paid for those reviews??? Drive one, let me know what you think. If you don’t mind the inside quality, don’t care about your seating/driving comfort, then you will buy one. I am anticipating sitting/driving the new 07 CRV and I hopeful that I won’t be disappointed with the quality. Knowing Honda’s commitment to reliability & quality (we have an 04 Acura TSX as well),I am sure I won’t be disappointed.

One word… YUCK!

The double-grill in the front and the C-shaped pillar make this SOOOOO ugly — how disappointing. A few weeks ago, after seeing this new design, I ran out and replaced my old CR-V with a 2006 while I could still get one… instead of waiting for the 2007.

I think I’ll wait for the next CR-V major redesign and pass on this one, thank you very much.

I am soooo disappoointed!!! I have been driving my 2007 crv waiting for the new 2007 and just had my first peek. It really makes me sick. I want the outdoor look back! Put the tie back on the outside. The tapered windows are horrible. Nothing grabs your attention on it. Ihave 190,000 on my car and I can not wait for the next design, and I sue can not buy this. I have to start from scratch!! RAV4? Honda, please say this is a big joke and release a stylish new CRV!! The staight lines on the original is still the best CRV design. Go back to that and cool up the interior adn kick in the Hybrid option as a price that does not cost more than the gas savings. AAAAHHHH I am frustrated!!

The best CRV. Though it has a couple of ugly spots, it is much better than the competition out there. I dont care if any part of it looks similar to other vehicles. I will have one for myself.

#56 – the first pertinent comment to this thread thus far. Everyone else’s opinion seems to be just that… opinion. Perception of style is objective, everyone knows that. Honda is throwing you guys a curve ball. However, if this really is close to what it will look like, I may wait for it to come out and then storm the dealers to buy a discounted ’06. Those are good looking and already showing heavy discounts in anticipation for the 07.

When was the last time Honda let the cat out of the bag? Honda is the most secretive auto manufacturer on the planet. that Bumper is obviously from a existing model put on as a diversion to throw us all off track.
I will bet when the CR-V comes out it will look quite a bit different than the pic.

Anonymous – uh, yeah. I know you’re a troll, but sadly there are people who have real opinions that reflect yours.

The proverbial cat got out of the bag in 1973 with the first oil crisis, when all Detroit had as an answer to the superior Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla was the Vega, Pinto and Gremlin.

30+ years later, even with import restraints, etc, the domestics still can’t field a car comparable to the Civic or Corolla. How sad.

Honda has these interesting design like the Euro Civic. It’s not boring, not good-looking, and not conservative either. It seems like it’ll have a bigger cargo volume too from looking at the back and c-pillar.

I agree, the C pillar are ugly. No flowing line at all. I wish they got rid of the small grille and make it grilleless to accentuate the details of the front bumper which look nice.

They also need to give that goofy C-pillar treatment back to Infinity or even Buick..

Paul, I understand that some people like the higher ride height, but I am not one of them. Higher vehicles simply do not handle as well. You cannot defeat the laws of physics. I agree that these crossovers make more sense than truck based SUVs for most drivers, and I understand why some people like them. I am not one of those people, but then I currently drive a MINI Cooper S, so I am looking for a different kind of ride.I have owned over 50 cars, mostly imports, and I love driving, so a CRV type vehicle is not for me, but I understand that many others like them. To each his own.

The crossovers are just modern day “Custom Cruisers” and other station wagons from the eighties. They have the ride hieght that people want from a truck based SUV, but with a better ride and better fuel economy. If you don’t tow a boat or a large camper, they make large truck based SUV’s like the Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon seem like overkill.

The Magnum rocks btw!

Actually, the Tracker, the Samauri, the Equinox and the Torrent are all made in Ingersoll, Ontario Canada, which I guess makes them all imports if you are in the USA. As far as the CR-V, it looks OK to me, but I simply do not see the point to any of these crossover SUVs. If you want an SUV, get a Hummer or a Land Rover, if you prefer a car with lots of room, there are lots to choose from. My current favorites are the Dodge Magnum of for import lovers the BMW Touring but there are many other fine choices, and they will all be a better drive than any crossover SUV.

Kudos Dave M. My last cars have been mostly Honda’s and two Toyota’s mixed in. At the moment I have a BMW, and it’s been pricey for maintainence, but it hasn’t let me down in the 55,000 miles that I’ve owned it. My Honda’s though (Including a 2000 CRV), they were well built and never let me down either. And kept each for well over 100k. The only reason I got new ones was because I just like cars, gotta have the newest kid on the block But they were (mostly) flawless for the time that I had them. My time with my first Toyota was unfortunately cut short due to an accident and my gf has a new RAV4 at the moment that has been great.

I was awaiting the new CRV, but bought the RAV due to a 269hpV6 that is at the moment garnering 27mpg with mixed driving. Nothing, not even the CRV can match that kind of efficient power on the market at the moment. But it does look like a decent offering.

Not digging the overbite though…

My only critique would be the back lights, which I didn’t like on the first, second, or this new generation. Don’t like them on the Volvo or Saab either. Look forward to seeing the interior, though. If they stick the Civic engine in, and keep the refinement to the typical Honda level, I expect it to be a big hit in this era of downsizing.

R-E-F-I-N-E-M-E-N-T. Something the Equinox and Torrent can only dream of.

I bought my last “domestic” car in 1980. My last three have been Japanese vehicles, one built there, two here*. All three, in longevity and durability, long outlasted my last domestic. As I gear up to buy a new car next year, I will give all attractive choices a fair shake – but expected longevity and durability will ultimately win out.

It would be nice if one of the domestic 2.5 qualifies this time.

*Japanese-bred, US built. So I employed Americans making a decent wage. Unlike buying, let’s say, a Chrysler 300 or Ford Fusion.

Anything has to be better than the current model, but this is truly a Honda misfire. I agree with Cleet (#18) on the overall analysis. Finally, with everyone guessing on who they ripped off for the tail lights, my vote goes to the Saab 9-3 Sportcombi (saw my first one yesterday – someone actually bought one!).

How would you know? You’ve never driven the new CR-V. In fact, the chances of anyone here having driven it are extremely low. I know I haven’t driven it either, so maybe it will be crap, but judging by how Honda’s been doing, it’s safe to say that the chances of it being crap are really low.

By the way, do you know how to read? Plenty of GM cars aren’t made in the US. And it’s not an American’s duty to buy GM cars. If anything, it’s an American’s duty to choose what they want. What’s the point of America’s democracy if we were obligated to choose certain products over others that we’d prefer? You make no sense and you seem to always contradict yourself.
