In April, Nissan unveiled the 2007 Infiniti G35 sedan to the public, but did not provide specific details about the car’s engine. At the time, the automaker said it would simply feature the next-generation VQ-series 3.5-liter DOHC V6. Infiniti has since confirmed the engine will have 306 horsepower as certified by the new SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) standards. Power should be considerably greater than that of the previous non-SAE 298 horsepower engine. It’s also worth pointing out that the next-generation coupe — based on the Infiniti Coupe Concept — will not be sold as a 2007 model, but rather as a 2008. Infiniti lists the 2007 G35 Coupe with identical specs to the 2006 model. There is some speculation that the 2008 coupe will go by the name of Infiniti G37, and offer slightly more displacement and power than the sedan. The G37 trademark was registered by Nissan in January.

I have to give it up to Infiniti for doing BIG things but I would still pick a BMW 335i. There is honestly arent a lot of car that gives as much feedback as Bimmers. I’ve driven a 184hp 325ci and it brings a smile to my face EVERY single time. Not to mention my 04 s2000 has about 240hp and hits 60 in 5.5 . the bimmer did it in about 7 or 8. How the hell do they do it?????

The fact this car makes 300hp doesn’t make it the best car in its class. Its relatively easy to get that sort or power from a 3.5Ltr.
The car themselves are good compared to cadillac and other non established manufacturers but the europeans marques have been perfecting the handling experience for years and years. Thats why the now last generation of the 3 series (97-04) is still better then anything that non europeans manufacturers have to offer in this class.

I was waiting for this new G. But I got tired of waiting and got a used Audi S4 with twin turbos and a stick (Audi Certified too). A chip upgrade, aftermarket downpipes and a 3″ exhaust means I will have around 370hp in no time. I used to have one with only the chip; this time Stage2+ means the Audi sleeper will chew up any stock M3 (much less 330’s, G35s, ISwhateva’s)…..

The 335i here in the statesis going to be in the mid 40’s starting price… The G35 is in the mid 30’s. The IS350 is outrageous at over 42 grand and doesn’t offer a damn manual tranny!
This new G makes an affordable alternative to a 3 series, especially at over 10 grand price difference.

The 2007 335i Sedan is starting @ $38,700 MSRP- which puts it $7.5K over the 2006 G35 Sedan. If Infiniti increase the price on the new G35 Sedan, then that margin will shrink further.

That sounds a bit optimistic at 38,7 but if that number is for real then yeah, go for the Bimmer. But with options that match the G, I would expect the mid 40’s price. Thanks for the info.

Its just how they time the engines. something with 180hp should throw me back in my seat. i mean ive driven it with two other passengers in the car and they were like “man this things got some pick up” imagine if i was in the 335i. Damn it I was interested in the coupe.
Why is it being delayed a year? With the 1 year delay and its proximity to the supposed GTR release date, I’m hoping that they’ll have a few things in common…and not just for aesthetic reasons.
…if I’m even still interested by then…
I love this car…in coupe form. I think the sedan is pretty ugly and in that case I’d prefer the IS350 or indeed a bimmer. But indeed I must say they’re all great cars and I wouldn’t complain and having any one of them.

I’ve compared the Infiniti and BMW 3 series more than once since I started researching my next car. I noticed that if you get the Infiniti with a premium package, you get almost everything included with only 1 additional cost increase over the base price. Unfortunately the germans haven’t learned to do the same thing. EVERYTHING costs more even certain colors of paint, so you can compare base prices all you want but in order to truly understand what a bargain the G35 is you could have to add up all the extras on the BMW and add the 1 package on the G35. You will be surprised how fast a car with a $38k car jumps to almost $50k. Now if you want to drive the absolute best and don’t care about price, then you need to leave your biased opinions at home and walk into both dealers and drive them both. THEN you can come tell everyone which impressed you more.

Having said that, I believe that reliability isn’t Infiniti/Nissan’s strongest point…
That’s the one thing I’d be weary about should I get the G35…
In COUPE form. … bastards …
With that extra year, it had BETTER be the G37 and push something like 350hp. Leaving some room under the hood for forced induction too…

The Infinitys are nice cars. They have done a very good job emulating BMW, which is smart.
The main problem is that they are priced only a little lower. When you are cross shopping these two brands, the BMW come out more expensive, but only slightly.
So if its is a difference between getting the real thing for only a few thousand more, then at this premium bracket it is not a big jump.

actually for $2950 you can get a Premium Package and heated seats on the 335i, bringing MSRP to $42345 including destination, and I don’t think you’d be missing much. Throw in a Sport Package for $1600 if you want, not that it’s necessary, and you’re still under $44K. With the free maintenance worth at least a few grand and the resale value of the 3-series being so good (it’ll pretty much maintain the up front price difference upon resale) I’d be willing to wager that actually owning a 335i won’t cost much more, if at all more, than a G35 would.

#38– JRobUSC– No doubt. The Bimmers are not that more expensive.
So why buy an Infiniti when you can have the real thing. In the beginning of the Infinity/Lexus era, there was a significant price gap. Not any more.

G35 Coupe is probably being delayed because it shares a platform with the 350Z. I think Nissan has already said the next Z will be a 2009 model. They also said they wanted the Z to be more like the Porsche Cayman so that looks good for the G35 coupe.

I think they already have with the 300bhp/300 lb-ft 335i
The torque comes on at 1400 RPM which mean it will have a ton of pull off the line.
BMW does not sweat Infinty. Yet.
It would be nice if Infinty countered all of BMW’s offering with 100 extra BHP for equal money than this strategy of just slightly more or equal power for just a little less dough.
They will not win over the BImmerphiles that way. That is what counts. Infinty blow our minds, make it impossible to buy a BMW b/c you offer such a better deal. Right now Munich still gets my money.
