Mercedes has announced the 2007 Mercedes G 55 AMG, an updated version of its high-performance off-roader, now with 500 horsepower for the new model year. The supercharged 5.5-litre AMG engine generates its maximum torque of 700 newton metres between 2750 and 4000 rpm. These exceptional figures allow the truck to accelerate to 62 mph in just 5.5 seconds. Visually, the new model year G 55 AMG is distinguishable from its predecessor by 18-inch AMG light-alloy wheels painted in titanium grey with 285/55 R 18 wide-base tyres. Standard appointments now include bi-xenon headlamps, oval foglamps with a cornering light function and ISOFIX child seat attachments in the second seat row. The more scratch resistant, nano-technology based paint finishes of calcite white, periclase green metallic and teallite blue metallic are also new. Gallery after the jump…

Yeah the more stripped diesel versions they sell to the rest of the world are very reliable but the ones we get have all of the normal problems current mercs have.

The R.O.W. now has a 3L V6 CDI engine with BlueTec available. But that’s not going to happen for the US market any time soon, if ever. Which is too bad as
the G would be much more appealing with that engine. Oh well…

The older diesel Geländewagens only had about 90hp (not sure about the torque though). Going over steep hills almost required a fast running start so 410hp is a nice bump up! They’re not pretty but people sure look as it goes by which is all some people care about.

You are an idiot. Considering the extremely low figures of G-wagons imported to the states, I doubt you’ll see ‘tons’ flipped over.
“there is no way it is stable enough to offroad”
you are an idiot. You do not rock crawl at 55mph. On-road stability has little, if anything, to do with offroad performance… but then, that would only matter if ‘tons’ of these actually flipped.
Please refrain from talking out of your ass and looking like a moron. we do not want to be dumber having read your post.

yes, Cherry Hills Village is very poor. you got me there. By the way, great punctuation in your comments; not too edumacated are we?
“The G-Wagen was first offered for sale in 1979 and redesigned in 1990 and updated in 1997. A new version was expected for 2007, but the new R-Class will not replace the G-Wagen and it will continue to be hand built in Graz, Austria at an annual production rate of 4,000 to 6,000 units.”
“So you might be intrigued after all — but at that high price you might also consider the latest Range Rover, which goes for about the same dough. Which is better? Or, should we ask, which is more exclusive? After all, with only about 2,000 G500s slated for sale in this country each year and as many as 11,000 Range Rovers, you’re not going to get the same looks in the Rover. But then, what exactly do you want from your over-the-top SUV? Now that’s the question.”
2000 imported a year? yeah, sounds like a ‘ton’ to me. asshat.

the G-wagen is an awesome exclusive ride. You would know if you’ve ever owned or driven one. Very exclusive too…pj ‘tons f;ipping over guy’, this is a very stable car, you have to be an idiot (as Mike aptly labelled ya) to flip one on the hyway…
On that note, i’ll try to remember you guys as I cruise around in my 2006 G55 from Glauser mbz

Whilst one shouldnt expect consistency from car manufacturers, it does seem odd that there is an AMG version of the G-Wagen yet no plans for a similarly powered GL Class.

I wouldn’t call it ugly.Plain simple lines are not a bad thing and Merc is carte blanche to do that because they have the reputation to back it up.Sometimes, actually a lot of times, understatement is what you want and need,or else you feel like an idiotic clown.I don’t mind this brute at all. It’s actually pretty bloody great.Timeless as well.

I currently have two of the 2003 G500s. The best beast I’ve ever drove on and off road. I must say that I don’t see the need for a 500 hp SUV unless you are towing mobile homes…BTW at what state the speed limit is 130mph? AND if you want a 0-60 in 5.5sec buy a 911 not an SUV…
Regarding the flipped G’s…HAHAHA Their CG is so low that it is almost impossible to flip that car (climbing angle is 36deg)

I have a 2005 G55 Grand Edition with ~14,000 miles bought new from MB. It was supposed to be the last year of production (hence Grand Edition and the numbered plaque for $4,000). Solid vehicle, very fast, nothing like it, not worth the money.
