The design is a step back from the older suv in what is essentially the same body. I already miss the flared arches of the original. Styling looks too derivative and common now. I wish they could bring in more power by getting the 3.8 liter MIVEC v-6 of the eclipse and maybe turbocharge(400-450hp) it to make it run like hell(Real Ralliart model) LoL!

At one time they sold an “Evolution” version in Japan DOHC 24 valve V6 nearing 300 horsepower. Older 1980′s MKI race spec Pajero rally trucks even used an early version of the 4G63 engine later usd in the Lancer Evolution.

1952 MG TD, you’re absolutely right. Their Lancer Evolution is in demand month after month. That car does market to a specific group of buyers, but it absolutely delivers what it promises. Do that for a Montero/Pajero and bring over the 4 cylinder diesel engine and update the vehicle a bit and I think it would be worth considering.

Mitsubishi engineers good vehicles. Most of them just aren’t interesting enough to care about. Lan-Evo excluded. Used 3000GT VR-4′s and Starions excluded.

I don’t think the public has turned away from SUVs. Once Oil prices drop people will be snapping them up again.

Mitsubishi still doesn’t get it…….now that the majority of the public has turned away from SUV’s, they’re going to have a hell of a time pulling the ‘SUV faithful’ away from the big 3…let alone Honda/Toyota/Nissan

sales of current models are pretty abysmal. Mitsubishi does not even pop onto most consumers radar, even though the Galant, Diamante, Montero, Raider, and eclipse are all good offerings in their respective segments.

Only the Evo sells well…

Patriot? no. GC, yes… but remember, this is a BOF, IFS, SFA with locking diffs. its closest competitor in the US market is the Lexus GX (toyota’s BOF, IFS, SFA w/ lockers in other markets)

Ya…But…Dan: You get the Diesel versions, kind of like when I go to Panama: there’s all these delicioso choices. We’re still stuck on 5L+ gas because Gas has been soooo cheap for soooo long and everything here is first measured by 0-to-60mph. I don’t want to feed the government or those fat slobs at Exxon, but ’till we have to ‘think’ about simply ‘going for a ride’, it’s more-of-the-same. Just look at the retro muscle cars and guys drooling over them?!

One of the few remaining workhorse SUVs. I love the two-tone paint- so 1992 Japan. I am certain they offered that same paint scheme on the ’92 Pajero in some markets.

My family has had 4 Pajeros, they’re about as solid and reliable a vehicle as you could ask for.

The current one is a 2005 3.2TD with an automatic transmission and it just takes anything you throw at it and comes back asking for more.

This new version is pretty much an evolution of the previous model, but will undoubtedly be even better.

Bring the diesel version, and Mitsubushi will have another product that will save their ass here in the states. The new Outlander being one of the most promising vehicles to come out of Mitsu in a very long time. This would only add to the momentum.

I’d hit that 2 door 4×4 diesel powered Montero like the fist of god. I can only hope they bring it to the states for a decent price.
