2007 Mustang GT “California Special” unveiled

04/10/2006, 3:48 PM

By admin

Ford has unveiled the Mustang GT “California Special” — the first new ‘Stang in a series of planned V8 “feature cars.” The car pays homage to the original California Special model produced in 1968. The car also draws some cues from the 2007 Shelby model. In addition to unique exterior styling cues, the interior gets bright-polished and satin-aluminum finished items and black leather seats with unique Cal Special Dove or Parchment “GT Leatherâ€? inserts. Under the good, there’s a unique engine cover that gives the engine compartment the kind of dressed-up look. The 2007 Mustang GT/CS goes on sale later this summer. The GT Cal Special option package adds $1,895 to the price of a Mustang GT. Ford also makes mention of the Bullitt, Mach 1, and Boss, suggesting they could be among the other special edition Mustangs.

Bad Ford! Fake hood scoops are not cool!

Please, if you’re going to make a special looking special edition car with go-fast stripes, at the very least upgrade the suspension and the live-rear axel. Jeeze.

“what’s so “specialâ€? about it”

Well ya got the fake hood scoop, the tacky stripes, the front bumper that took a full 3 mins to design on photoshop where they used the COPY & PASTE tool. Then ya got the bullet wheels that have been used for years which are the only thing that looks good on the car, which brings the question: Isn’t it time to design a new style wheel for crying out loud!?

There ya go, that’s what’s so special about it. Go Ford

ive never been a fan of rag tops anyways and the other extra junk is in poor taste; but like i said some dumbass will buy it cuz they think it looks cool.

Hmmm it is probably just a model to give us an idea of the real thing, I like the scoops what I don’t like is the little black thing below the head lights and the fact that it is a convertable (never a fan of convertables), Ford will probably mold the scoops in with the rest of the body, so stop being so lame.

“Those will be tacked on scoops. This it the final model.”

They tacked it on just for the purpose to give you an idea we won’t know for sure if it is “tacked” on there or not until it is released. Even if the scoops are tacked on it still looks good except for the black thingy and the convertable deal, I was never a fan of any convertable on any car.

This is ridiculous. There is, according to the article, nothing to distinguish this car from the current production version other than go-fast stripes, a fake hood scoop, custom rims and a revised front fascia. The interior gets aluminum inserts and emblems on the seats. This one of the things I hate about Ford Mustangs – faster looking “special edition” cars with no performance modifications of any kind. The other thing is the stupid amount of scoops these cars seem to attract. The only thing they do is slow the car down; they serve no purpose other than to make you, the buyer, look like an idiot.

As a Ford fan I’d have to agree with Richard K, this is a bit of a lame attempt.

I think like, StephenJ said, the Shelby GT500 is a much better option.

If you STILL want to be different, how about Saleen’s Scenic Roof or other offerings? I like the look of Roush’s Mustang too! Mean!

I dont mind it but if I were ford I wouldn’t have shown it in white. It just looks boring the way it is, but if you imagine it in red or blue or even a glossy black with that matte finish stripe it gets cool.

With few exceptions Mustangs have never had functional scoops, but in my opinion the car is a little bland without the old scoops. Do I wish they were functional? Of course. Am I shocked and horrified that they are not? Absolutely not.

The original California Special wasn’t that great either, so it sticks with the original theme. However it does add some exitement to the line.
So give Ford a break and a little credit!

True, this will not be the car for real car guys.

That’s something alot of REAL car collector’s will appreciate.

hmmmmmmmm…lets see how many people run there mouths about things they dont know anything about. First of all the gt 500 is now being released, and there are a limited # of them, somewhere in between 5k and 8k. This is also the final year that Carol Shelby puts his name on any car again, so if its marked up 25k well its worth it since these cars havent been made in 25 yrs. Second for the people who rag about the hood scoop being fake, its called a insurance liability if Ford was to produce anything like that. Get a grip and pay some monkey to cut a hole in your hood.

I ordered my Redfire GTCS on 7/01 and can’t wait to have it delivered, since the ETA is approximately 08/14 I have to wait for at least another week. All this negative and lame remarks about the GTCS are probably from the same people that drive those stupid 4cyl rice buckets with those stupid mufflers that make them sound like lawn mowers. If that’s what you like that’s cool I guess, but don’t sit there and bad mouth a true American classic. Go Ford!!!

The original California Special used show or non-functioning scoops. It was called the poor man’s shelby and I think this car shows that. Being a 68 California Special owner I am pleased with the new model and I am probably gonna buy one. The new California Special does the old California Special justice. Bravo Ford.

I just bought an 07′ CA edition coupe with no hood scoop or stripe and I will tell you for the additional $1900 it is well worth it. The interior is much nicer the front and rear spoilers and side scoops make a big diffrence to the exterior. The 1.5 lower to ground does make a difference in handleing. I am not a car expert but the CA is worth an extra couple of bucks.

My redfire CS coupe will be delivered in 6 weeks. That woman who read the bubble-gum blog above and backed out of an opportunity to own one of these Mustangs will regret it. Look at the comments from CS buyers!
The CS was made for class at an affordable price, just like it’s namesake. If you’re poor, go for the V6. If ya want speed, pay a bundle more and go with the Shelby–if you can find one. I bet when I build up my CS–at a much lower price tag than the Shelby–it will earn respect off the line.
What comparable car surpasses the Mustang? The new Camaro looks good from the front fender back, but every time I see the front end I chuckle–it looks like a grinning monkey! The only car IN ITS CLASS that may compete with the Mustang, when it hits the ground, is the Challenger. We’ll see. . . .

It’s finally here. I picked up my GTCS redfire metallic on Sunday 8/20, and she’s beautiful. Everywhere I go, people give me a thumbs up, and some guys even got out of their truck to take pictures of it, I thought that was really cool. So, to all those idiots putting down the GTCS, I bet you wouldn’t be doing that if you could afford to own one.
