The last 350Z won its class in Car & Drivers new standard for car performance "lightning lap", where Car and Driver is testing cars all new cars as a standard bearer. Like "the ring" in Germany is used. It was a full second faster around that track then a Evo MR. The new car should be even a bit faster. Cant wait to drive this car, and the upcoming new Evo and WRX. Rally cars rule.

Here is another thing I want topoint out.

350Z $28,000
300+hp
Great over-all performance.
Great Looking
Great Engine...
And the list can go one
I rather spend $32k on a touring model V6 then a $34k EVO-Mr thats a 4 banger. If anything I would get the WRX-STI because of there great boxer engine. Subaru is also one of those underated car lines.

Nissan Product which to some may not know this, but its the Product line of choice in Japan due to its racing heritage, Realiability, and of course durability...not Honda, Not Toyota, Not even Subaru or Mitsubishi has the rep that Nissan has.

So that said.....The Z is the perfect car for that prce andperformance.

How is this news when the sales brochure was in dealer racks two or three weeks ago? The only discernable change is the retro-70s Z hood bulge and 20-some horsepower.. hardly a "reveal" of any consequence.

lol- the GTO? The car that GTO fans rejected? Where is the 2007 GTO? Canceled due to lack of demand.

G6 is not even RWD and gives up 80+Hp to the Z

350Z, coming to a Fast and the Furious Movie near you. There's a reason why everyone in this class skips over the crappy Nissan and goes for the Corvette or the GTO boys. No amount of updating is going to stop it from being a POS econobox. Ricers don't know what hit them when I blow past them in my Pontiac G6, imagine how they must feel being dusted by a vette.

Imagine how Nissan must feel being dusted by GM.

Evo and STi are not competiors to the 350Z. Evo is a FWD or AWD rally car. STI, AWD rally car. The FWD Mitsubishi Eclipse is suppose to be the competition, but fails terribly.

Jazz, I hear ya. It's a great car. In fact, it's pretty amazing considering that the 350Z shares it's platform with the Infiniti FX. Personally I drive an XTerra Offroad and that thing hauls ass. And that weighs a half ton more! I've driven the Enthusiast edition and it's great. I'm not sure what people expect for $30k, but take a look at what's on the market in that price point and I think they'll find a new fondness for what the 350Z offers.

If I hear any more about 'plastics', I'm gonna puke. Cost benefit analysis... I'd rather have performance and quality over having some designer plastic interior that makes me feel warm and cozy. What else do you want? Leather and precious metals??

Sorry, but this thing gets its ass handed to it by either Evo or STI, 2 main competitors.
I could hardly pick out ANY changes in the looks of the new one. I'd still take a G35 over it any day. Even a IS350 with it's bland styling will, at least, kick its ass in a straight line.
I love the VQ engine. The 4 liter in my Frontier would have been perfect in the new Z, tuned for more hp it could have put out 330hp and still made 280lbft.

Hmm. Not excited about this update. I have a 350z and am biased so take this with a grain of salt.

I disagree with you all on the price. 40k for a roadster (coupe is 36K) that can beat a Porsche Boxter? Not bad. Note that the enthusiast can be had for less than 30k.

The hp rating IS getting silly. They keep dropping torque to up hp. Torgue gets you off the line- HP helps you pull at the top end. I doubt that most Z drivers will ever see the 6hp that was added but they'll feel the torque at every light and every shift. Some say the update smooths out the engine. Whatever

I think the 3.5VQ engine works extremely well in the Z -giving it the right compromise of power and efficiency as compared to gas guzzling V8's and Turbo/Superchargers. Also Traction Control is great on a RWD in the wet. The VDC sucks though

^^You're right about the exterior updates. People look for that first, and then the "under the skin" changes are an added bonus once the vehicle is purchased. You need the exterior changes to get people into the showroom sometimes (not enthusiasts, mind you, I'm talking general public). Not crazy about the pricing, either. No way do I want to pay $40,000 for one of these.

As for all the Michigan comments...why do any of you bother with GMRules or whatever his current name is? He's only posting stuff like that to stir the pot. Most of the time, he's dead wrong. I've lived in Michigan for over 20 years, and there are plenty of imports on the road that are not the target of vandalism on a daily basis. Sure, there are the die-hards around who only buy domestic, but you have to keep in mind that some of the domestic vehicles are company-provided (GM does this for the 8th level and above employees), or the person got a great employee discount on the vehicle. Considering the deals to be had between the employee discount and the incentives, you'd be crazy to buy anything else. Unless, of course, you really like paying tons of money for your vehicle.

FYI for those of you in Michigan, if you don't believe me about the company vehicles, take a look at the lower left corner of the windshield on a GM vehicle the next time you see it on the road. If there's a little barcode label there, then it's a GM-provided vehicle. They put regular plates on them so that it doesn't look like they are company provided and so that the general public will see the vehicles on the road and maybe be intrigued.

they cannot make the 350Z TOO light (z06/EVO/STI LIGHT) over wise it will harm sales of the upcoming Nissan GT-R which is Nissan's flagship automobile just like the Corvette zo6 is GM's and the NSX-R IS Honda's (japan only)

I think Nissan are using this as a stopgap until spring 2008 when the z06 destroying 500bhp $50,000-64,000 Nissan GR-R hits the streets.

"40K is alot for a 350z… "

that's still cheaper than what those loser British have to pay
$62,000 FOR THE ROADSTER.

I agree. Enough about Michigan. A very talented girl I know who shoots for motion pictures originated from Michigan. She's as smart as they come with the work to show for it.

Anyway, this looks like a stopgap 350Z until full redesign which will probably come around the introduction of the GT-R.

I'm more interested in the compact RWD Nissan may build and sell beneath the Z.

aside from this Michigan bullshit how about discussing the 350Z. its a great car but it does have many problems. it's over priced, overweight, and and from a perspective poorly designed. The problem with this car is that Nissan wants it too due to much. Each element of the car had different intentions so to speak. Like the car has a great exterior which hints its a luxurious sports car. the interior is shitty, and does not match the exterior of the car. the engine was pretty much intended for another car cuz it has no torque and all horsepower. more torque would be idle for the acceleration and if used properly would help a lot with the handling. like someone already said it has traction control and i don't know why. i think it is cuz if it doesn't have traction control it would sound bad when being advertised. people believe that traction control is something good. the car being advertised to too many demographics and Nissan is losing focus as a company when it comes to this car. this car has great potential if Nissan can get a grip and try to stay focused. and GMnumberone4ever your a fuking moron for thinking that a Miata is a shitty car.

Sorry I'm not retracting anything I said, lol. I don't care for Dallas, the people are smug and stuck up. I never once had anyone shoot me, stab me or try to sell me drugs in Michigan. I was in Detroit, Flint and Pontiac quite often, which are all supposed to be terrible areas. The Lions are a terrible football team, the Spartans sucked this year, but U of M did great. Anyway this is played out. I thought this was an enthusiast site, not an anti GM, Michigan, Detroit, America etc. site. They changed the hood? Guess I don't look at enough 350z's. The only thing I never like about this car was the interior, I think it was the door panels that just seemed boring, and I thought it should have had more power. I liked the G35 more.

The 350Z is a nice car, but whoever designed that interior needs to be fired. CHEAP! Get rid of the acres of hard black plastic and put something nice there.

If you hate GM that's one thing. But if you think that a Dodge is more reliable than a GM product or a Ford your way off! This is coming from someone that owns GM products and works for a Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep store. As for GM reliability its just as good as a Toyota as far as I'm concerned, I haven't had any problems with mine. Michigan is a nice place to live, at least its much better than Texas, I hate it here in Dallas. The Lions do suck! Who cares though, this isn't a discussion of sports. I guess I'm a real f-ing loser, I like Michigan and GM, but I could careless about the opinions of someone that can barley speak English.

Take it back. Dallas is infinitely better than anywhere in Michigan. You can walk around downtown Dallas with out getting shot or asked if you want to purchase drugs. Detroit has GM's headquarters, the Cobo Conference Center and, the largest collection of crummy run down buildings in the USA. Thats it!

LamborghiniZ-
You need to stop being hypocritical. You need to pull your head out of Toyota/Honda/Nissan's ass and wake up. American made vehicles are better than they were and Japanese made vehicles are getting worse. Yes, GMnumberone4ever is off base. But he is just spreading the same propaganda bullshit that you do about your "excellent" Japanese vehicles.

Definitely better than a GM, although the Sky and Solstice turbos are nice.

It has the VQ35HR now, so at least there's that. Shame it starts at $28,000.

That's a steep entry fee into Nissan sportscars. The Sentra SE-R doesn't count, sorry.

To GMnumberone4ever, you're a moron, the comments you make wouldn't even apply to Michigan in the 1950's, the height of the American car era, much less now, haha torched? egged? keyed? hahah what a joke, get over yourself

TO>GMnumberone4ever, i drive 350z, its not the best car out there, but its ok, talking about styling, just a few can match it, i think the problem with you is that your parents or maybe even you lost job because of downsizing/ job cutting and now you are mad.

"At least here in Michigan we have real cars driving around, not shitty imports like this cheapass Nissan. That thing would be dismantled and thrown in the garbage if it came within 50ft of where I live. Show up here in an import and you are bound to have your car egged, keyed or torched."

Yeah, because reliability and quality really are functions of how hostile and violent ultra-nationalists are. The more you want to key the car, the worse it must be! Good arguments.

Nice updates on the Z. Too bad this car was 500lb too heavy and $5000 too expensive from day 1.
