2007 Nissan Maxima debuts

04/11/2006, 10:11 AM

Nissan has released the first images of the 2007 Maxima — an updated version of the popular midsize sedan. The car receives changes inside and outside. Most notably, the front of the car has been updated, with the rear largely untouched. Tomorrow, Nissan is expected to unveil the new Altima and G35. Images of the new Maxima after the jump…

Check out that ghost passenger climate control switch on the dash, plus that picture’s dash is black plastic with no trim!
I can’t believe they released oops pictures!

Unless that’s a base model with a low MSRP, which includes buying defective knobs from the reject line.

Man, it is so nice to see thatthey gor rid of that AWFUL front end on that car. Looks soooo much better now.

ugh, they also should have changed the rear end! The WHOLE car was ugly, not just the front. Glad to see a conventional sunroof though. I hope the Trekkie who designed the other stupid glass roof doesn’t make the move to Tennessee.

The Maxima always had the optional conventional sunroof. The long sunroof is standard no extra cost equipment.

At least the front grill is no longer entirely ugly… never understood Nissan’s decision to make the front grill divided the way it was.

I am fan of the big chrome plate with the Nissan logo on it. At least it is still retained on the Murano. This new grille does not look good on any car other than a silver one. I would have preferred the entire grille chromed out. Bling is good. Very good.

The front is an improvement over the outgoing model. But should have also redesigned the rear. The shape of the taillamps is still at odds with the trunk opening cut line. The interior looks too much like the outgoing Altima’s interior. Seems like Nissan is holding back something for the next gen model. The next generation Maxima should shift to the new rear drive platform to reclaim its title as the four door sports car. Sorta like a poor man’s Mercedes CLS would be nice. It also will avoid overlapping with the Altima.

That top-down shot of the front reminds me of the Mercedes CLS.

Nissan’s been on a roll with their recent models including the Infiniti line. However, some of their designs are quirky, including the Murano and Maxima.

Thank GOD they changed the front end as it really now complements the excellent rear end (chisled rear windshield and C-pillars). I do agree with the poster above (canut4ever) in that they should have redesigned the out of place rear tail lamps — total mistep there.

This could be the first step to me liking the Maxima again. Until then, the G35 is a much finer car.

BB, you reject the Nissan, and… go for another Nissan? They didn’t lose any business there lol! That’s exactly the idea of targeting different audiences.
I think the new nose makes it look like an Altima.

Not sure what happened to Nissan on the late-model Altimas and Maximas. Doesn’t anyone remember how unique the 1995-2000 Maxima SE was? Its flat back was distinctive and the car design overall tasteful. Then the 2000-2003 was more bulbous but at least had some nice rounded smooth curves and a cohesive overall design. With 260-280hp, it was a fine choice for a non-premium sedan and the Altima at that time had a nice rounded tasteful body.

Then they came out with that ugly as sin radically redisigned Altima, and proclaimed it to be a “beautiful” design when it was ugly as sin and then for some crazy crack-smoking reason, they made the Maxima look like its evil twin, ruining 2 of their lead models at once! I was shocked that they actually had the balls to call their own design “beautiful” and advertise this aspect when it looked like a complete donkey to me, ESPECIALLY that retarded Sunroof(more of a vertical slit than a sunroof) and at-that-time trendy taillights.

Now they’re retreating from these outlandish designs but the new Maxima is still based on that platform and overall I simply wished they went back to the much more attractive 2002 model and updated that one instead.

I owned the 2008 Maxima and it is one of nice designs. I did not like the 2000-2003 design at all. The 04 is sharp and bold, but I dont the the torque steer. My wife is looking at buying the 07 and hopefully the new transmission does not have that much torque steer.

So this is what I have been waiting for…the objective for Nissan a.k.a. carlos ghosn was to catch up to their competitors such as the toyota avalon and mr. carlos failed miserably. I have a current 05 se and see some beautiful things in the car such as the roomy interior. The skyview, which some people do not like but I do because it provides an intimidating or curious factor for those big trucks that stop behind me. The beautiful silky vq engine. The fullness of the car, giving it an imposing purposeful demeanor, especially in a dark color.

But now let me say the bad things about the car. The cheap interior materials and body gaps despite the price that reaches infinity territory. Just because the interior has changed does not mean that the aesthetically displeasing body gaps will go away. The options list and refinement for a car that ranges from 30k to 35k should be in a par with cars in those price ranges, and the maxima is not. The maxima sport suspension is below par with sport suspensions in less expensive cars. That is why you hear people say that the maxima is not a true sports car–and it isnt. It has the outer edges of being one and gives you small hints of being one, but overall it is not a sports car. Mr. carlos has given cost cutting materials with high prices and has managed to fool the public this long. The maxima in the NY Auto Show is an improvement, but an extreme disappointment. I also predict sales will go down in half because of this, because the objective was to reach refinement in par to the avalon, and Mr. carlos did not do it.

And lets admit it, Mr. carlos is the main honcho at Nissan, so lets not pretend he had nothing to do with all these decisions. Perhaps nissan is planning a new generation maxima in 2008, but at least the maxima could have not embarassed itself by at least matching the avalon. And what is this about HP going down to 255?? In a world where maxima owners buy this car because of the beauty of the vq engine, it becomes an insult and I must admit a machismo thing that the HP goes down.

Mr. carlos, you let maxima owners down. If your stearing the car towards a more lux direction, then so be it. My wife owns an 02 Altima SE V-6 and its time to trade in the cheapness of the car and I have my 05 Maxima. But Im moving over back to better craftsmanship and refinement sometime in September to the toyota camry, avalon, the ES330 or perhaps the TL. My wife wants the new Camry, which has 268 HP and virtually no body gaps. Loyalty only lasts so long.

Take this message like you wish, I said my peace.

The 2007 Nissan Maxima is still lagging behind the competition regarding the exterior design. I am getting to the point of asking Mr. Ghosn to discontinue the vehicle if this terrible design trend continues. At least leave the vehicle some dignity!!

I recently attended an auto show and being that I own a 2003 Nissan Maxima, I decided to skip the Nissan presentation. The Toyota/ Lexus and Honda/Acura presentation caught my attention immediately. Toyota is taking no prisoners regsrding design and performance. I remember when Nissan was the Asian benchmark designer and performance leaders of the sports sedans. I’m totally put out with the direction the Maxima 2004 -07 are taking. And what’s with the huge price tag? And there is almost no visual difference between the Altima and the Maxima, so why buy a higher priced car? Is this anyway to treat loyal owners? The price is going into the TL, C-series, 3-series, & ES series area. Guess which car I would NOT buy?

The Maxima looks like a bloated boat with wheels or Altima. And I detest the headlights and grill (looks like bug on steroids and is still disgusting-2007). The car has lost it’s theme regarding sports sedans. It seems that Nissan is forcing the customers to turn to the competition for better designs and performance. Please place the vehicle on hiatus until designers bring the REAL Maxima back.

I happen to like the 2007 Maxima SE but I have every option. I have no complaints except that it looks way too much like the Altima and more HP would have been nice.

I presently drive a 2004 Maxima that awful interior with that felt material. This car in my opinion was very cheaply made..It is also one of the worst rattlers I have every driven. I was really looking forward to seeing the improved 2007 model which was supposed to have a more luxurious interior becoming the Nissan flagship.I am very disappointed. The inside still has that cheap material and I couldn’t even believe that the grill is now plastic just like the Sentra. At least my 2004 has black chrome. At $45,000 which is what I understand this thing is going to sell for, forget it. I’m looking at a Lexus or Infinity.Shame on you Nissan.

Despite the previous comment from Walter, the Maxima is not a $45,000 car, which questions the accuracy of his remarks. Fully loaded, this car costs no more than $37,000. Get your facts straight.
