Nissan today revealed the 2007 Nissan Qashqai, a new compact crossover for the European market. Inspired by the concept car of the same name that was presented at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show, the Qashqai is a new vehicle for Nissan in Europe, with sales starting in February 2007. As well as European sales, Qashqai will also be exported from the Sunderland factory to Japan – where it will be named Dualis – the Middle East and “additional overseas markets.” So far, there has been no word on U.S. availability. Four engine options will be available — two diesel and two gasoline offerings. The 1.6-litre gas engine offers 115 hp and 160Nm or torque, while the 2.0-litre produces 140 horsepower and 200Nm. The diesel engine options – 1.5- and 2.0-litre – provide 106 and 150 hp, respectively and 240 and 320Nm of torque. Gearbox choices will include a five- and six-speed manual, a new six-speed automatic and a CVT. Both 2.0-litre engine options can be specified with Nissan’s all-wheel-drive system. I agree, boring… it kind of reminds me of the X3 in some of the proportions and detailing. I’m sure it won’t drive anything like the X3 though. The best of the Japanese small SUV’s has to be the CX-7, by far.

I like it. Slot it in below the Merano with the 2.5L 4 cylinder/6 speed auto.

I like it…but yea, dumb name. How do you even pronounce it. At least it doesn’t have those dopey center gages like the X-Trail.
And I think the CRV competitor is supposed to be the Xterra, no?

As a FX35 owner, I love this thing! This price range does not like deeply polarizing vehicles. It has nice clean lines, a great dash, big wheels, and yet nothing too odd like dash on the original Quest. With the CR-V admittedly targeting women, the RAV4 looking uninspired and the Caliber looking chunky, this would appeal nicely to young families looking for a more aggressive design in their cute-ute. It worked well for the Murano. Change that awful Qashi name (finally something worse than VW Tiguan) and Nissan could have a hit on its hands.

Qashqai is a great name like Tiguan, it is crappy names like Caliber and Patriot and Liberty you want to get rid of. Hey how about a Dodge Jingo or Chrysler Xenophobe or Jeep White Supremacist or Dodge Aryan Nation

I guess this a US built version will be announced soon probably with a different name. Nissan Quahogg maybe?
I don’t see the problem with names like Liberty or Patriot? Neither has anything to do with being a racist or a xenophobe.

They will probably build it for Europe/Asia/Latin America only.
The US version will be an Infiniti with a slightly different front and rear facia. The FX20?

I don’t understand Nissan. They already sell a small SUV called the X-Trail. That vehicle comes optional with AWD and a turbocharged 240-ish horsepower four cylinder engine. Sound a lot better to me if you add the diesel engine to that.

Why has Hyundai and Nissan been making all these strange names? Also I must say that the headlights look more like something that would belong on a GM… just doesn’t look like a Nissan (not totally a bad thing, depending on your taste).
Wow, alot of stupid people on this post… and all the others. I am thinking about leaving LLN because of the three year olds, as my knowledge is not put to use and I believe the smarter of you should too. I CAN’T wait until they make registration and block certain people.

If we are lucky, when it comes to the US, we will get the extra cheap plastic interior with thousands of rattles (like my Altima) and the 4 cylinder engine that bursts into flames! (and no, I’m not bitter!! HA)
