Spy photographers in South Africa captured the first image of a completely undisguised 2007 Volvo S80. The image is not especially clear, so determining its authenticity is difficult. However, it was reportedly captured by a photographer working for the reputable Hans G. Lehmann — meaning it’s probably the real deal. (It’s possible some digital enhancement has been applied to the image, although it’s difficult to tell). In mid-October, we published the first clear — albeit partly disguised — spy pictures of a black 2007 Volvo S80. Previously, the only images of the car were of a prototype with heavy disguise. In addition to an assortment of five- or six-cylinder engines, the new S80 is expected to be offered with Volvo’s new V8 powerplant developed for the XC90 SUV. Earlier this year, clear spy photos of an undisguised Volvo C70 preceded the release of official photos from Volvo by only a few weeks. Sources suggest Volvo may reveal the new S80 at the Detroit auto show in January.
