Ford to bring S-Max, Mondeo to U.S.?

Ford is considering importing its European market S-Max crossover, Mondeo sedan and wagon, and Transit commercial van to the United States, according to Ford CEO Alan Mulally.





"The probability is very high" that Ford will bring one or all of the vehicles to the U.S. market, Mulally told trade publication Automotive News.

"When I went to see the James Bond movie and I saw that Mondeo, I wanted it," Mulally said. The Mondeo would be more expensive than the Fusion, but analysts worry it might still overlap too much.

Mulally is also a fan of the Transit. "What a neat vehicle for commerce in the United States," Mulally said. "We need a small utility, a really high-utilization vehicle."

Ultimately, no final decision has been made, but the three vehicles are "all under consideration," he said. "They just all make sense."
