I’m starting to get bored with the camaro already. I see it everywhere, its common now. It could use a little face lift to freshen it up.

Which is kinda sad because its not even in production yet.

This doesnt sound like some type of a marketing scheme does it? they have sales down the tubes and there best shot of selling cars is to make them look cool in a movie, not put some ideas into thought and improve their overall quality….

What’ll happen is that kids that see this movie will see GM in a positive light and then buy them when they are old enough. GM is planting a seed.

That is if GM is still around when they are old enough to buy cars.

I’m definitely one of those people who are eagerly awaiting this film, as I love movies (and 80s cartoons) even more than I love cars.

I like how Michael Bay and Co. are being so faithful to the original concept of the cartoon. In the 80s the cartoon’s main purpose was to sell toys. Now the movie’s main purpose can be to sell cars.

If anybody’s interested to know, Michael Bay (who is directing Transformers) seems to have been in league with GM for a while. He directed the GM advertisement that featured the debut of the C6 Corvette (it was the ad where the SSR drove backwards onto the transport truck). And his next major film after said commercial, The Island, featured the Cadillac Cien concept and the Chevrolet SSR as “Hero Cars.” To speculate on global_lightning’s question, the villains in The Island mostly drove (slightly modified) Dodge Magnums. There was also a Chrysler Crossfire at one point, but I can’t remember in what context exactly.

I wouldn’t say he’s THAT faithful to the cartoons since Bumblebee was a VW Beetle. So if the name is the same, is a new muscle car Camaro (which I think looks very nice) named BUMBLEBEE going to look good??? It’s just a question for those die-hard muscle car GM fans. This is going to be an “American” movie…I doubt Optimus Prime will be a Hyundai (yes, I know he’s a semi, it’s a joke)

Personally, I could care less. I’m just interested in the movie and was a huge Transformers fan as a kid.

Yeah I think thats pretty lame that bumble bee isnt gonna be a bug. I had the actual toy when I was little. I dont see bumble bee as a camaro. And Jazz is supposed to be a porsche.

The movie will still be entertaining tho. Like X-men with cars.

I’m with Chauncy. I remember the glory days of LLN, when I could expect a new story to appear at the top of their homepage every fifteen minutes (give or take). I remember hitting the refresh button on my browser with intense anticipation, because I understood the probability of finding a new car related article when the page loaded was high. Sure, some of the articles were just about what tuners were doing to high performance sports cars, and certainly a few were about Paris Hilton and her SLR. But at least I knew that no matter how bored I was at any given moment, LLN was there to keep me busy reading something, anything even vaguely car related. But now, where are the Top Gear videos? Why haven’t any more Enzos been spectacularly totaled? I don’t know. So LLN, I beg of you, please fill the void I feel inside my soul where your seemingly endless supply of car “news” used to be.

The Camaro in this doesn’t look to have brake calipers because the film makers decided to create a mock-up Camaro (based on a GTO underbody I believe) for the movie. The “wheels” you see are actually wheel covers, or hubcaps.

GM conspiracy..? I dont think I have any bias towards the company. It was a smart decision for GM to get their name in the movie for sales and recognition, but i’m sure they had to pay a hefty fee for it. But Michael Bay always looks for product placements in his movies, and this is’nt the first time he went with GM to star in his films. GM cars were all over the place in The Island, especially the Caddy, with few exceptions to the Chrysler cop cars. Its all part of business, and with this movie, it’s a win win with GM and Michael Bay. When the series 24 got huge in the 2nd season, Ford got an Explorer to make an appearence in most of the episodes for maybe 2 seasons. Its the same deal.

I’m just praying this movie doesn’t blow because I ended up with a movie poster signed by the whole cast through a charity auction I attended. It’s be unfortunate if it was so bad I was ashamed to have it in my house, cause I loved Transformers growing up. My question is, when is GM going to ween us off this inefficient gasoline and move us over to Energon Cubes :P
also to brcart3r: Yeah in season 2 of 24, Ford paid for the first two hour premier to run without commercials, in exchange for their vehicles (even the Thunderbird) to appear heavily in the show. I’m not a fan of blatant product placement, but in this case they have to drive some sort of car, so if it gets rid of commercials sure, might as well all be one manufacturer.

GM doesn’t own Peterbilt do they? Because Optimus is a Peterbilt in the film.

I would also imagine that there will be more than four autobots in the film. And seeing as they’ve tried to establish realism by using existing brands, I don’t think they’ll just make up cars for the rest of them.

brcart3r,

I think it might be revenge to a degree. Most if not all of the Autobots will be played by GMs while I know at least one Decepticon will be played by a FORD. FORD used to cut some deals were their cars and trucks could NOT be used as Villain cars, so GMs got shafted every time, corvettes being crashed crushed and blown to bits. Chevy trucks braking down or crashing during a chase while the FORDs got away without a scratch.

The movie’s a bit of an advert for GM, but then it’s just back drop for the Robots in disguise.

That said, when the devil IS the Camaro going to ship anyway?

My only grip is that Bumblebee is NOT a VW beetle. It would have fit better I think. Cliffjumper should be the Camaro. Jazz was a Lancia Stratos … I’d have made him a Porsche or a Vette. But the other choices seem to be more or less on the money.

The movie’s car choices are all wrong. It would be real better by being faithful to the original designs. I must say GM must have paid a lot of money to the movie’s producers to accept mostly GM vehicles.

Carnut4ever… Do you really think putting cars in a movie is “alot of money” when your talking about a multinational firm like GM? When you think of large sums of money… consider the losses GM has taken, comparing it to individual wealth is pretty pointless if your trying to draw some kind of spending picture
