could the americans live with anything under 2 litre – they seem to thing anything that doenst have a 2.5 twin turbo nutter gas guzzeling world burning engine cant cut the mustard

mondeo 2 L diesle is cheaper to run ( comoparing apying uk cost of petrol

than paying the equivilant in us dollers $3 dollers ( and you are moning FF sake) for one of those huge SUV they all seem to drive in florida etc
one comment form a cabby in san fransico why there areso many big cars state sized whas of the hills and passanges – WTF – and we dont have hills in the uk or passangers.

stop buying cars with such large engines and ford might think hey we can sell mass volume small engine ( american perception ) cars
ok they had euro sized in tampa

i wonder why doesnt ford get the mondeo to the US…. we have it all over latin america… and it’s a really really nice car.. great looking, great interior quality, and don;t even start with the handling… it would be a good rival to the accord and camry.

No, the last Mondeo sold in the states was the previous generation. The Mondeo currently sold in Europe is more Focus like in looks. Go to http://www.ford.co.uk and have a look.

It’s true about the logistics. Think about it, they can”t just POOF start building the car in the states. There are parts to be made and factories to tool for a platform that isn”t (I don”t think) produced for any of the models in the US. Not to mention what would be required to adapt things like the lighting, emissions, and safety features to meet the tough USA standards. And at best it would be a medium volume seller which means importing it would scale back the profits and take away sales from higher margin models like the Fusion and Five Hundred. Or when the car came out…it would have been between the new (at the time) Taurus and new (larger than Escort) Focus at a time when sedans weren”t selling.

I agree that it is a shame that the US can”t benefit from what is a better car than the Taurus ever was.

I don’t buy the whole logistics costs thing as a reason why the Mondeo couldn’t have been here in the U.S. before. They have the Mondeo not only in Europe, but in Asia as well, so there was no reason they couldn’t have brought it here.

No chance of this in the US. There is no slot between the Five Hundred and Fusion so it would only serve to pull sales from them. Plus the production logistics costs and cost to adapt to US standards just can not support a profitable business case. Same reason why the last Mondeo wasn’t sold there.

huh… it looks like its wearing a winter jacket… and if they do make a production car that looks as sweet as iosis, they better sell it in the US… ford needs all the cool cars they can get…
