When we will read summary for 2008 next year, out of all cars put into production probably Venza will make money for its maker. The rest will break even at best.
Every vehicle with engine larger then 4 cylinders will have uphill battle with inflation, recession, housing slump in US (especially in truck segment) and $3-4/gallon gas prices. It is not exciting news, but reality. Whoever will survive this recession will be attempting in building exciting vehicles in the next positive economic cycle.

…but when is that next positive economic cycle going to be for you guys. That’s the crapshoot. Canada’s economy is strong right now but we’re too small to matter. Still, I expect ‘08 to be a good year up here with the strong dollar and pricing coming in line with yours.

Autonut—where do you live? Do you proof-read your comments before you post them? I didn’t realize that the housing slump HAD a truck segment.

And regarding who will survive the recession—ALL the automakers will survive it; recessions don’t kill off automakers. And isn’t it pretty much an on-going process to build exciting vehicles for all of them?

I’m sure glad no one from this LLN group of “automotive enthusiasts” is in charge of any of the car makers; we’d never get anything remotely cool or daring!

Scott, I’m going to look up ‘weenie’ in the dictionary so that I can see what a dork like you looks like.

my apologies for not proof reading postings, but I type them as I do other things as well.
Scott you are correct housing slump does not have truck segment, it has negative effect on construction workers who are underemployed and thus can’t buy new trucks.
As far as recession not killing automakers, I recall bog four and now we have not so big 3. However, we have a lot of new ones from Asia. And historically they were not involved in monster machinery games, but were concentrating on selling vehicles that brought them continuous profits. In my opinion, recessions of the past propelled Asian brands and did not help domestic (actually quite a few European brands did not survive our recessions either).
Some love to drive fast cars slow and some love to drive slow cars fast. Which one is more of enthusiast?

Where the hell is a small or mid size truck with a fuel efficient diesel in this lineup?

JohnnyCanuck – it may not be such a great year for auto dealers in the great white north, may of us are simply driving over the border and saveing 10k, 15k, more. Finally the RIV has pretty much opened the borders to just about any vehicle to be imported to Canada.
