2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 officially sold out

04/23/2008, 5:09 PM

By Drew Johnson

It may not come as the biggest surprise, but Dodge is officially sold out of its entire run of 2008 model year Challenger SRT8s — 6,400 units in all. Dodge reportedly received 10,000 pre-orders for the revived 1970s muscle car legend, 4,300 of which came in the first three days the Challenger was available for pre-order.

However, if you’re dying to get your hands on a 2008 Dodge Challenger, you still have some options. According to KickingTires.com, 28 of the 6,400 Challenger SRT8s are available on eBay. Interestingly enough, 24 of those 28 are being offered by a dealer.

But be prepared to pay a premium to be the first on the block to have a Challenger. While the 2008 Challenger SRT8 has an MSRP of $37,995, the 28 examples on eBay are going anywhere from the mid-$40,000s all the way up to $65,000.

If you can wait until the 2009 models roll into dealerships, you can save yourself quite a bit of coin. While the SRT8 model will still list for just under $40,000, two new models will be available — the R/T and SE — the latter of which will likely sticker for under $24,000.

Supply & Demand people….supply & demand. I’m sure everybody would like to have one, but not everybody wants everyone else to have one. It’s cool that they are only produced in limited numbers. If it was a Chevy Cavalier who would give a sh*t? It’s like anything else that is made….if you’re an early adopter, you’re going to pay the price, don’t bitch about it. The people who can afford to own one will.

Patience is a virtue people… Jeez also wait for the first year models to have all their kinks worked out, I’d never buy a first year model of a new car no matter who the manufacturer is. And in 09 when all those people who paid up to $65,000 go to trade in or re sell those challengers in 5 years what’s going to happen??? It’s FMV is going to be below the 37k or whatever the sticker price is. Who are the idiots now? The ones who waited or the ones who rushed to get their hands on one??

I’m kind of surprised that’s all there are on eBay.

Need4SSpeed: your problem is you’re thinking rationally. Those with more money than brains don’t care about that. 50k large to some is like $5 to the rest of us.

Good for Dodge though. Despite the fact this car should have been a ‘Cuda, it’s creating a very positive buzz even amongst those those who don’t generally pay much attention to things automotive. And the best part is it’s creating the same buzz amongst those who do.

Don’t feel bad if you weren’t the first guy in your ‘hood with a new Challenger SRT8. In 2 years from now when gas will be at least 5 bucks a gallon & people get sick of getting 8-9 miles per, they’ll all be on used car lots you’ll have your pick of the litter then.

I love these internet cowards that talk ****. Man, I wish you lve in N.Y. P L E A S E say that you live in N.Y. Nothing would make me happier to meet up with you so I could beat the ****ing crap out of you. Then I’d pull your skank whore pig mother out of whatever bar she’s getting gangbanged in then beat the crap out of her.

^^ Whoa dude…. Talk about overreaction… what a ****ing cry-baby. I hate to break it to you there Nancy, but if you’re THAT thin-skinned, then LLN is definitely not the place for you to be commenting on! Especially since that was one of the milder things that gets said here. Out of all the automotive news sites, this is just about the wildest one there is with regard to the type of comments people can get away with… so you’re obviously not stable and/nor “man” enough to roll with a few light punches… I mean, sheesh… I’d hate to see what you would be like if Deanster was still on here dishing out some world-class insults.

Either way…. I think that has to have been the most ridiculous overreaction to a “yo momma” joke I’ve ever seen!

And for what it’s worth… I love these internet cowards who say things like, “Oh… I wish you lived here… PLEASE say you live here, so I can kick the ever-loving **** out of you!”

Needless to say… it might be time for you to take your ball and go home.

“Badass,” my ass….

Badass, if I ever see your goatraping pedophile ass in NYC I’m gonna tie you down in the gay village and have all the pillowbiting semen-thieves roger your bunghole with their pork swords. While they’re doing that, I plan on turning your mom into a mountain of jizz while ****ting on your father’s chest. When all that’s over, I plan on giving your mom a Strawberry Shortcake. Look that one up, you chode-munching faggoteer.

These price gouger’s need their @$$’s beat into the ground. What kind of adult is so childish that they couldn’t just wait another year anyway to get one at MSRP. I guess I’ll be getting an R/T in white, nothing but standard options, none of that GPS navigation crap. What the hell is wrong with deanster that you can actually think $H!T like that up? Whatever, anyway, where is 1115 now with his toyota sales figures?

Ditto for the Cobra Mustang. It took about 1 1/2 years for them to be found on the lot. You still have to pay at least the sticker price, though. With only 6400 Challengers, it might be longer before you can find a deal new or used. The good news is that since most of them will be garaged and well maintained, you’ll get a like-new used car.

I know johnnycanuck, curse my rational thinking, but yeah your totally right. Must be the Scottish in me… lol Problem is especially when I look at cars from this I look at it from an investor’s standpoint, and unfortunately for us, unless it’s a vintage car, or something along those lines cars are the worst investments ever, they all depreciate (some faster than others) and you end up losing $ for the most part.d

I just read an artcle in Autoweek called “The ZR1 Bubble” and basically this guy was saying how the cars like the ZR1 that sticker for 100k are going for like 300k and etc and etc, just like the GT-R was being marked up to 130k from it’s 70k base. He was talking about the previous ZR1 and how he bought one a few years back. it was a mint 95 or 96 ZR1 with 5k miles on it for 28k. In the article he said the car listed for 60k and the original owner had paid 90k for it. Since he had it he put 2k miles on it and when he auctioned it off at Barret Jackson last year it sold for $27,500. So he basically lost $500 on it with putting 2k miles on it. But you can see how a car that listed for 60k was marked up to 90k and over a decade later went for $27,500, just like this will be happening to the first Challengers, GT-R’s ZR1’s and the SRT4’s and PT cruisers and any other car that people rushed to buy.

I’m with HRR and everyone else, I’d wait another year or two and buy a Challenger R/T (also in white, sorry HRR), with the 370hp 404ft lbs of torque, that I’m sure will probably sticker for 27-28k and still be a good performer (or preferably just get a Camaro Z28 with 400hp) But you get the idea.
