Nice, I think it looks much better. The "headlight over the fender"" look of pretty ugly, IMO. I'm glad they revamped the styling, it shows that the designers are finally getting a sense of taste - as well as where the headlights belong: in the front, not all over it.

My 06 SRT8 draws comments most anywhere I have it. I dont think the 08 is an improvement. I feel the grill is too small, the bumper is too massive and it has lost some of the aggressive look. The scoop is ok but the headlights add to the flattened look. Perhaps some interior improvements will help, the stock exhaust should be louder and the brake dust is troublesome, but for the money it is a leader. I like the Super Wagon and hope it continues to make its mark on the industry.
I love it when I know some BMW or M series person goes to his/her buddies at the office and tells them "a station wagon kicked my butt today", at 1/2 the price (on some of these mentioned) the Magnum is twice the fun and value.

Masculine? LOL there is NOTHING masculine about driving a station wagon. Design all the hard edges and blunt noses you want, you're still driving a Dodge station wagon. This car is for men who's wives rule their lives, but somehow convince the wife they need 400HP to haul groceries with. See you in the Wal-Mart parking lot!

HP/liter is certainly overrated. Engine weight should be factored in, and OHC engines are considerably larger than are OHV, although many OHV are still iron block/aluminum head.

I like this front end better than the old one. The Dodge magnum is a masculine vehicle and the old front was soft and curvy, bordering on Voluptuous. This new front end matches the rear better and the overall spirit of the car.
As for the engines. Anyone who believes the 6.1 and the 5.7 s are not great engines and who believes one can get 400 HP from a four banger with anything approaching fluidity, smoothness and reliability is ignorant.

lol nice point on the slr and e55 homeboy. Mongoloid, SUPERCHARGED motors in much more expensive cars.. what a retard.. ahahaha.

as for making that power with a little modding on an sti / evo, sure if you consider full exhaust a turbo swap and tune a little modding... lmao.. then you have shitty low end due to turbo lag.. not to mention shitty mileage out of a 4 banger..

ahahahaha brainiacs.

55amg: ["european and japanese cars they can get more hp from smaller displacement engines than american cars"]

Oddglat: ["Ferrari can get 800bhp with a 6.2L"]

Here we are again with the HP/liter nonsense :)
Let's take the Z06 for example.

Here is the deal: I had $70K, I wanted the best performance, could care less about how they make it. Electric would do, make that in HP/liter :) :)
To me the fact that X Japanese or Y German car’s engine makes 100 HP/liter is nothing. My Z06 makes only 72 HP/liter, but 505 HP in total. The total power matters, the weight of the car, the dynamics, the handling, the brakes, etc. The Z06 will stomp over any of those import cars in the same price range. You want to beat my Z06? Then you have to spend 2-3 times more money and even then, it will be a very close race.

You want HP/liter? Get whatever you want for the same money ($70K) and then tell me if your car comes in the same performance league as the C6 Corvette Z06.
Go ahead and overpay for the Japanese or German sports cars.
I have got the best performance I can get for my money.
See you at the race track :)

If you think current engine development takes any cues from NASCAR, you've been fooled. NASCAR engines are still using 1950s technology. Every automaker in the world has long since moved past NASCAR designs.

The problem with Dodge is their engines are the only thing they have going for them. Their interior and exterior designs are antiquated and cheap. If they fail at designing the engine (425 hp from 6.1L is a failure), there is no reason to buy the vehicle.

55amg said: no im just wondering why like in european and japanese cars they can get more hp from smaller displacement engines than american cars. but actually i just calculated this one out, its quite ok. the figures just didnt look decent in the first place

I noticed that you were ragging on GM's 3.6 engine just the other day for not making enough power/displacement. This struck me as odd because your name is "55amg." The 5.5 in the SLK55 amg only makes 355 hp for 5.5 L of displacement. That would give a European car a worse ratio than an American car.

I personally wouldn't have minded Dodge bringing the front end more in line with the Charger.. but then again, it looks like they already did that with the upcoming Avenger, so too many similar faces may not be a great thing. What I find disturbing with the Magnum refresh (and based on spy shots, the upcoming 300 facelift too) is that it is too subtle. These were groundbreaking cars three years ago, no reason not to take a little more risk with the refresh.

This facelift on the Magnum is okay but still boring as watching grass grow. If it were a full body re-dress, then maybe. But no not this time.

I am not a fan of the over-detailed chunky styling DCX is indulging in. If the Challenger looks at least 80-90% in step with the concept then I'm sold.

The engine is pretty good as ever...

For import fans: More displacement = more potential for power. Most modern American "muscle engines" come from NASCAR development, and other auto racing programs. A few minor, bolt-on changes, and a 425HP 6.1L V-8 will easily jump past 600HP. You really can't do that with a 2.0L 4cyl, at least , without having to buy a new engine that will cost as much as or more than the car you're putting it in.

Now for a car worth the power that doesn't cost a small fortune...

what is the damage on the average audi with the 425 horse v8 motor?

I would suspect it is substantially higher than the SRT8 in question lmao.

could it be in the new RS6 which will ding you 75k, and still have reliability problems?

asshat.

or to make it simple american engineering sucks..

all the import bashes can keep their unreliable underpowered tanks.

Underpowered, yes because we know that every vehicle on the road has over 425 HP and a 0-60 of ~5 s or less.....

People who bring up HP/L often lack an understanding of engine design, hence they need HP/L to compare them (despite the fact that it's not a good measure for such things).

The horsepower per liter argument is the stupidest thing ever. Oh great now we are comparing Audi, BMW and Ferrari to Dodge. Brilliant.

American companies use OHV engines in the lower end cars and OHC in the expensive ones (for the most part).

To me and many other Americans, there is nothing better than the affordability, simplicity (think cheap and easy modifications), SOUND, power, and torque on the low-end that comes from a small block V8.

Yes, the imported engines do manage to squeeze more power from smaller powerplants but at what cost? I'm pretty sure durability and the cost of engine parts play a part in the equation as well. Seems everything inside a Ferrari engine is made of unobtainium, which causes the prices of engine parts to equal some small cars. American engines may be big but their parts are fairly affordable.

Oddglat, I speak to you as one does to a small child: you are not seeing the whole picture and it involves more than peak horsepower.

Now, go color in your book. Good boy.

6.1L 425 HP?why DCX?!
Ferrari can get 800bhp with a 6.2L

WHY DONT THEY TAKE A NOTE from Audi?in the 80's they where hated in the us but they engineered their cars to perfection now they can get 425bhp from a 4.2L V8, THE SAME AS THE 6.1L hemi! Now the domestics are getting too complacent playing the patriotic card to sell sub-standard, out dated cars, but sadly US car buyers can see though this pathetic facade.

come on America STOP being lazy with your car engineering because this is a joke.

55amg, this is not a flame, but I'm just curious... What in your opinion is a decent HP/liter ratio -since you are so hung up on the subject? You know that HP is not the end-all when it comes to different types of cars.
