2008 Ford Escape spied

04/20/2006, 12:01 PM

Like Audi, Ford has been hard at work implementing a new “corporate face” on all of its vehicles. Whether it’s the three-bar grille on its sedans, or the signature headlights and chrome treatment on its trucks, Ford is clearly trying to unify its design language. A new photo from the Detroit News shows the 2008 Ford Escape in testing. The car is expected to arrive in 2007 as a 2008 model. Ford is said to be upgrading the interior with better qualities materials, and also working on a companion Mercury Mariner version.

Hard to tell from the small photo, but seems to be a step up over the current version. The leap required? No, but a step up. I question the wisdom, in an age when everyone else is trying to do more carlike crossovers, of making your crossover look more like the slowly selling, larger Explorer though…

I don’t like Ford’s corporate truck grille and headlights. They are too blocky and 1980’s. Lack of imagination.

Long live GM! Eat Ford’s pathetic market share!

The Ford F-series has been the # 1 truck seller for the last 30 years. GM who?

I agree, Ford SUV’s suck. The Escape should be thrown out of the plan with the new Edge coming anyway.

No, the front end looks like the last generation Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero with all the chrome and all. Ford designers can do better than this. Don’t waste development money on models that look like “old” cars.
