2008 Ford Super Duty (F-250, F-350, F-450)

09/28/2006, 8:27 AM

By admin

Ford today unveiled the 2008 Ford Super Duty pickup series. Offered in three cab styles – Regular Cab, SuperCab and Crew Cab – and with two bed lengths, the new Super Duty will be available in early 2007. A new 6.4-liter Power Stroke Diesel will be offered, delivering 350 horsepower at 3,000 rpm and 650 lb.-ft. of torque starting at 2,000 rpm. It features a high-pressure, common rail fuel system, Piezo-electric fuel injectors and an advanced diesel particulate filter system. Transmission choices include a six-speed manual with overdrive or a TorqShift five-speed automatic.

For 2008, the model line has been expanded to include the F-450. “The F-450 pickup doesn’t just raise the bar for heavy duty pickups, it tosses it out. Game over,” said Mark Fields, President of the Americas. “Every aspect of the new line of Super Duty trucks, including capability enhancements, design changes and feature innovations is uniquely designed after spending a great deal of time talking with – and listening to – our customers.” Gallery after the jump…

It might be too “squarish” for some, but it’s definitely a different look than the competitors, which I applaud. Don’t mess up the 6.4 L Diesel engine now, Ford/International.

I like the GM offerings better. The hood appears to be too tall and the headlights seem odd looking.

I like the interior a lot. The exterior is a little bit underwhelming, but it’s not bad. The power ratings are what I expected to see (although I quietly hoped for 700 lb-ft screaming out of the rear wheels) and it’s great that it’s a low emissions diesel, but I am mostly interested in the gas mileage estimates on the 6.4L. The fleet of 2002-2004 Chevys and Fords averages 12-13 under our loads. If I could get 15 or so, that would be incredible.

That 6.4l diesel sounds like some serious haulin’ power. I like this better than the new Chevy/GMC offerings, but I’ve always felt that way.

Seen this in disguise around here (cincinnati, weird i know) lately. could be the transmission plant. at any rate, it’s ugly. but it’ll sell. hopefully the GM twins can put the hurt on it, though.

I like the big agressive look of the grille and the nice interior compared to the GM pickups. The unique F450 is the biggest in its class with real truck tires and looks like it will eat even the biggest pickups from Chevy and Dodge.

One can only hope that Ford will not totally butcher the 6.4 like they have/did the 6.0 Power $troke Diesel. Professor Diesel is still rolling in his grave. Ford and others have taken a great engine and turned it into a Politicially correct Corporate piece of Doo Doo. Lets hope the tree huggers don’t push them too far. Ford and others have really ruined the diesel and taken away most positive points. Come on Ford (Dodge & Chevy Too) get with it and back to basics.

I had an ‘02 Silverado diesel so I am partial to Chevy. However, I think the Ford looks really good especially the interior. It is well thought out and has a few things that the new GM’s do not. I hope the new 6.4 will be a positive change over the problematic 6.0. I thought the front end was a little weird but I’ll save the criticism until I see it in person. The Silverado is just lost when I look at it up close. All three have updated their diesels for low sulfur and emissions and they all have huge power.

In respoonse to “Moontraveler1984,” the real enemy is China. They are determined to undermine our trade balance and our economy and are building themselves up to take over as the number one superpower. It’s our weak gov. that does nothing to curb the over-importation of chinese goods that will include cheap cars very soon. Japanese cars employ thousands of Americans here. It’s all about OUR healthy economy with a japanese gov. firmly understanding that we are their closest trade ally and do not want to upset that alliance. It is obvious to us all on this blog that the Detroit 3 have to step it up and put out a product that strikes a notch much above the rest of the world. It is about product and the Japanese know this very well.

I actually like the headlights and I think the truck is awesome. They just need to increase the gas mileage to 18-20 MPG like it used to be and they would sell like hot cakes. I think if the truck got 18-20 MPG empty, I would actually be willing to pay 50k for one.
