Comments on: 2008 Honda Accord/Acura TSX?

A sketch is a sketch is a sketch. the picture is probably a best guess at what will be the JDM euro Accord 2008. Honda is busy re-inventing people’s perceptions of the brand here in the UK, with the current euro Accord and the new euro Civic (which thing they should really sell to you Americans). They seem to be pitching at picking a fight with the likes of Audi & Saab (they will see the latter off). Time will tell whether they will succeed or not, but I wouldn’t bet against it. On the imports versus American argument, I can only smile, The UK recently lost its last mass motor manufacturer. Toyota, Nissan and Honda are the UK motor industry, but they are good citizens; and yes in my experience, cars made by GM, Ford and Chrysler in the US have been uniformly shoddy in construction and awful to drive.

Good rendering, and if this is the new design language for Honda, I would question what that means for Acura. The new Civic could have been a replacement for the RSX, with it’s Acura-like design cues. There needs to be more than options upgrades to seperate the two brands.

One suggestion I might have would be to introduce the coupe version of the new Accord using the Prelude name. Although Honda/Acura isn’t known for resurrecting past nameplates (think: Legend) I think in today’s coupe market the Prelude name would appeal to general buyers and enthusiasts alike. I would also think that the Acura TSX should be available in coupe form to fill the void from the departed RSX.

I believe anything that Honda does is great. However, I do agree with some of the people that the new 08 Accord kinda looks like a stretched out Civic. Anyway, I will probably buy another Honda Product with the next year or so. I have owned 9 Accords, 1 Prelude, 1 Element, 1 Civic, 1 RL and 1 TL and have had many other different car manufacturers in between. Fo some reason, I always come back to the Honda. I currently own a 2006 Civic and I may wait for the new Accord (08) body style to buy another, I Think! The only upgrade that Honda needs to do is give the interior a more “plush” upgrade. I believe that would sway more buyers to Honda instead of the other similar imports. Anyway, Honda, keep up the good work. Donald Jaeger, Ponchatoula, Louisiana

I have faith that Honda USA will get it right some day. This design is NOT inspiring. I agree that it looks more like a 06 Civic on steroids. Knowing that they are capable of producing vehicles like the Acura TL and the 06 Civic Si gives me hope.

I can’t believe they didn’t give the 2006 TSX more punch (i.e. the Honda Accord V-Tech V6 3.0L 240 hp engine…..at the LEAST). Even Lexus and Toyota have caught on to the fact that they’re going to need more horses / performance in order to stand up to the competition (I applaud them for that). I just don’t understand Honda’s strategy behind taking nearly half a decade before they redesign (well I guess I do….speaking from a capital standpoint, redesigns must be expensive).

That aside, I’m happy to hear that a coupe version of the TSX is possibly on the way. Unfortunately, I can’t wait that long, as I am in the market for a new car NOW!

Final comment….Honda corporate may want to consider hiring fresh new talent in their design dept for Honda USA (i.e. get some new recruits from Germany). European cars are always a pain in the ass when it comes to their “true cost to own,�? but I’m never disappointed with their designs. In short, Honda needs to break free from the traditional “in the box�? safe thinking, and chart new territory.

Come on HONDA, stop being boring and let’s catch up!!!!

Yeah about time something surfaced on the future accord (euro).I currently have a euro and have been watching the intro of the Ford xr5,the Mazda 3 mps,the V dubs etc wondering what Honda have in the pipeline so i can look forward to staying with Honda.
The RDX sounds great,just need to plonk the Euro body on it.simple.This looks encouraging though.

I would have to agree with imports over american, I a have 2005 chevy malibu w/31k miles and a 2001 honda accord w/42k miles. Both are base and the malibu doesn’t have cruise control, lights on vanity mirrors or side air bags as the accord does, and the malibu is a piece of crap. the accord is older yet better in quality, and they honda is worth about 1k more. I’m about to trade it in for another honda. The only american I would buy is a Chevy Silverado or maybe an F-150. I love chevy, but never a compact car from them again. Im more inclined into buying import cars now. I used to have a ‘93 Lexus LS400, that was better than my malibu.

Oh and the above comment is a polite, but in your face response to #33. You want to talk about recalls? What was that recall on the fords having a problem with the cruise control making the f-150/expedition catch on fire?? Wow, I want one of those. Maybe I can catch on fire while cruising down the freeway. You might want to research a little bit on the net. American made cars are not coming back and never will. Stop building boring cars with poor quality and the worst styling and maybe people might look at them. Can anyone tell me who would drive a ford five hundred? Or what about the malibu classic edition? Oh I forgot…those are classy cars. Both companies who make them are going bankrupt and closing factories all over the usa. Yea, domestics are really coming back. Maybe if we would squint our eyes and stop being lazy and figure out how to build products consumers want, then the big 3 would not be nissan, toyota, and honda. Take cadillac for example. Why would any smart person buy one over a lexus or acura? Oh let me be a smart american and support my country, and in the mean time buy a car that won’t even be worth half the sticker price after 1 year. HAHA pretty funny. I am on my third asian car and will never go back. I had 2 Jeep CJ’s as my first 2 cars. Will never go back.

For all you American Car lovers out there- take a quick look at where they are built, versus where Honda’s and Toyota’s are being built now. Recently compared a Honda Odyssey and Chrysler Town and Country. YOu all get one guess at which one is made more in the US. Hint- it isn’t the Chrysler. Oh- and even if you have OK reliability with a particular “domestic” car, I would like to see how much you get for it if you ever try to sell it. I have a 2001 Honda Prelude Type SH with 65000 miles, and just got an offer for $17000. My father in law has a 2000 Chevy Venture, with 70000 miles, got offered $800.00- that’s no typo. American cars are doing a little better though- my Uncle is one of the higher ups in Ford, and says that they finally built a car he would recommend to family- the new mustang, based on quality reasons. But that is the only one he recommended- he said the other just don’t last long, and aren’t worth crap after even a year.

I’ve driven domestic vehicles all my life until I finally got so sick of them being in the shop more than they were on the road. I finally bought my first Import ever in 2000, A 2001 Honda Prelude SE. I’ll never go back to a Domestic POS again. What a car….this Prelude was bulletproof. Honda, please bring back the Prelude. I’m waiting.

I love the 2008 accord! but, I’m also a huge fan of the TL and TSX … it definatly favors them more than ever.

as for what someone else posted… I agree, the best accord coupe EVER was 98-02. I owned a 98 that was PERFECT, and woke up stupid one day and traded it for a 2005. I like my 05, but it doesn’t look nearly as good, nor is it anywhere near as fast. My 98 was purple, with tinted windows, and alteeza tail lights… gosh, I loved that beauty! anyways…
all in all, i’m just a Honda girl ALL THE WAY.

# 36 Yea, American cars are coming back but they are still light years behind the Japanese. I like the Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan/ Lincoln Zephyr but they are no comparison to the Honda/Acura or Toyota/Lexus products in build quality. No matter how many tranny problems Honda or Toyota have they address the issue and in some cases extend the cars warranty. The American Co’s don’t do that.
This 2008 Accord is great looking. The current one is bland but still a better choice over a Fusion/Milan or even a Malibu or Impala. I’m not too fond of the new Civics’ interior and exterior styling but the bottom line is I would still take it any day over Cobalt (ha-ha) or a Focus (biggest POS since the Pinto)

Sorry #25, but Honda has issued its share of recalls as of late. Tranny problems, anyone? So has your other sweetheart Toyota. I noticed all you import hugging idiots don’t mention Toyota’s recent recall of some 1 million vehicles (including the world-saving Prius) because the STEERING MIGHT FAIL. Is that also “no big deal”? Of course, who needs steering when you’re driving such a “well-made” car like Toyota.

And as for sales, if you count the Chevy Impala/Monte Carlo the same way Toyota counts the Camry?Solara and Honda the Accord Sedan/Coupe (after all, each pair is built off the same platform and sold by the same company), Chevy’s not doing too bad in the sales department either. And how is it that Ford’s F-Series is the best-selling vehicle of all? Not because it’s a bad vehicle as some would believe.

The Accord looks nice. Way better than the current Accord. American Honda has made its hugest mistake of putting the JDM Inspire as American Honda Accord. Honda Revolution. This will just keep getting better. I would buy it if there is an FR option. or SH-AWD.

don’t get so worked up over a sketch. Even if this is what the concept looks like, it won’t be what the final product is. And if the Honda Accord is bland, I’m not sure why its the #2 selling car in the US behind the Camry, which is also probably bland. All these Domestic hugging idiots bash every import based info on this site, and don’t comment when the CORVETTE ROOF PANEL GETS RECALLED. Or they refer to that as “no big deal”. You don’t hear about Honda’s being recalled on a daily basis. And if you want to talk about marking Honda’s up and calling it Acura… Why is there a Mercury? Why is there a Buick? A Jaguar X type is a Ford Taurus but the idiots still buy it for $30,000 more. Free Speech, I agree. But don’t waste your own time adding such terrible input.

Europe has new pedestrian impact safety laws dictating a higher bulkhead and hood to clear hard engine components. Rhis car would need a pop up hood like the jaguar xk to be sold in Europe. VW is no more guilty of this than any other manufacturer as they all have to meet the same regulations.

Even though it’s only a sketch, this may be the best looking Accord to date. Of course, this being Honda, I’m sure the actual car will be at least as bland, boring and uninspired a design as the current Accord. Honda will probably tack on an extra 10 grand and call it an Acura.
