2008 Jaguar S-Type

12/05/2006, 5:49 PM

By admin

The Jaguar S-Type has been on the market since 1999, and is due to be replaced by an all-new model for the 2009 model year called the XF. In the meantime, Jaguar has revised the aging S-Type for one last time.

The 2008 S-Type, which goes on sale early next year, gets an assortment of new wheel choices, new front and rear fascias, and a number of new standard features. All S-Types now feature the S-Type R bumper and mesh grille. While there are no new engine options, all models now feature Jaguar’s acclaimed six-speed automatic transmission, leather seats and a leather-trimmed steering wheel as standard. A new Satin Mahogany veneer is available as an option across the range (excluding XS). Choice is further extended with the availability of a new Ivory and Charcoal leather colour combination for SE models.

Models include the S-Type Spirit, XS, SE, and R. The 2008 model year sees Jaguar Racing Green replaced with new Emerald Fire. All other exterior colours remain unchanged. Gallery after the jump…

Are there any higher-res (as in bigger than 1280×960) versions of these photos, particularly the last shot? These pics here are useless as wallpapers.

This is quite the subtle facelift, however I like the interior, its certainly been cleaned up a bit, I also like the various wood choices, they look good. However this is an aging car, an aging design, and an aging platform. In reality the S-Type, while it has the look of sophistication and typical Jag sportiness/elegance, falls far, far short of the class leaders, and ultimately fails in sophistication, luxury, and sportiness, the 3 things it most desperately needs to compete in such a competitive segment. I wish the replacement for it was going to be an all new, 100% redesigned model, but alas its not, looks like Jag’s midsize luxo sport sedan is most likely going to be down and out once again..

Any chance that jag might make reliability a standard feature, or for that matter even just a simple option? I’m certain some of their customers might like it.

Reliability? I thought that option is only offered on a Jag model that’s been out for at least 4 years. Ha ha…

But heck, I gotta give props for Jag for producing ultra cheap “Bentleys” to cater those who still covet that old British style. Otherwise how can they compete with the Germans…

I love the idea of Jaguar, but frankly Ford ought to be embarassed that this car is carrying the flag for the marque, after nearly 10 years on the market.

And as for the facelift, it is so subtle as to be invisible. Good job, Bill Ford and team.

Only two more years til the replacement which – wait for it – - – is based on the OLD CHASSIS!! jesus it is sad just writing it….

The newer lower fascia seems a little non-descript; it doesn’t complement the rest of the car well. Although the rear is a clean, classic design, it seems less distinctive as before.

Also, I don’t know if whoever wrote this is British, but I found it funny that the word “colours” was used. New rule? When writing about British cars use British spelling? ;)

Andres Neves, you are a treasure. And Jag is about to get things right; give them four years to roll out the new stuff and they will be smacking people around.

AndreNeves—I’ll bet your description of the typical LLN commentator is spot-on. It’s appalling how rude and inconsiderate some of the people are on here; this is supposed to be a forum for discussion of cars, NOT a stage for foul-mouthed mud-slinging.

All of you people saying Jags have bad reliablity should get with the times. Jaguar fixed that years ago they just need to come out with some more exciting new products.
