2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class exposed

Spy photographers have captured the 2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class with less disguise than ever before. They even managed to get long-lens pictures of the car’s tail without any disguising at all.

An official unveiling is expected at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show, with sales starting shortly after. A wagon variant will arrive six months later. The base engine will be a direct injection 4-cylinder 1.8-liter with varying horsepower from 150 to 190. Horsepower for the 2.5- and 3.5-liter V6 engines will be 210 to 270 respectively. A C63 AMG is expected to replace the C55 is the model lineup. Gallery after the jump…

what you talking about. it looks exactly like a small version of the S which looks rather dull itself already.

it looks like a good blend between the rear of the CL and the rear of the S, while not looking too proper like the last one did. Mercedes really needs to inject a bit of mean and bite into their cars.. they too blandly styled for all those opting for BMWs and Audis. At least they look better than Lexus’s

Man i think the rear is so ugly it just seems overstyled. Mercedes needs to go back to being elegant and simple. They should build rock solid and last lifetimes like the old ones did.

Another dissappointing new model from Mercedes judging from the rear along. Hopefully the front will make up for the disastrous rear. Why didn’t they use the wider chrome stripe on the S and facelifted E?

MB’s 3-series competitor (or have they given up?) had better have a decent C500, as the powertrain variations listed in this post look rather dismal. If not, I’d say MB is pretty much finished in this segment.

Evolutionary not revolutionary.
The rear end will be copied by Korean manufacturers within the next 2 years.
But since these will be used as taxis all over Europe, they had to incorporate blandness into the design.

Both a Toyota Camrys and Hyundai Sonatas look better than that. Even a Mercury Montego stirs the blood more. My God.

Naysayers say nay. What else is new? The car looks just fine. Not jump-out-at-you exciting, but still good nonetheless.

The stop lights are so similar to a Honda City. The signature peanut headlights are gone replaced by something reminiscent of a Camry. What the heck…

For the past 10 years I really havent liked Mercedes what so ever, I love BMW and I’d always choose BMW over MB, to be honest I really expected something a lot better than this.. the rear of the car IMO is hideous.. Although, these are not official photos, and even if they were I still wait to see the car in person before making my final judgement.

But who am I kidding? I’m sure this car will sell very well just because its a Mercedes and everyone wants a Mercedes.

It looks like the rear end is allowing to more room in the car without making it bigger to me. Kind of like the Scion tC, I kind of like it.

Notice how the swag line turns into the rear lip spoiler. Interesting detail; I don’t feel like anyone has done that before. ‘Elegant and simple’ is just not where design is going.

I think it looks good. I saw a heavily disguised one similar to above last week here in North Jersey out testing followed by an undisguised CLS 320 CDI w/ Michigan plates. My camara phone is crappy so I didn’t bother trying to grab a pic. Later in the week I saw the CLS 320 CDI again out in front of the local Starbucks. No exterior camo, but the whole center console stack was covered by a neatly trimmed piece of leather that was nicely velcroed to the dash?

How anyone would think BMW have better rears then even lexus is beyond. They are hideous and not worth the first look let alone a second.

For gods sake the 7’s rear was so ugly the gave it a facelift very unusual for the rear.

Not feeling IT one bit with this new design. We’ll know for sure once the wraps are off, but right now, they are being way too conservative if they are going after BMW and Lexus. It looks very blah and that rear end looks like the designer got 3/4 of it completed and gave up!!!

I rather like it - this design theme seems to work better on this smaller model than it does on the larger S Class - although the tail is looking a bit 1st Gen Audi A4 and what’s w/ the huge scoops in the doors for the doorpulls?

Will have to wait to see how the interior looks.

I like it, I can’t wait to see the C63, or for that matter the Sport model should be a looker as well if they treat it to the AMG body kit. I thought they shyed away from the 4 bangers though. Oh well the Kompressor 1.8 scoots along quite smoothly.

I keep looking at it, and part of me really likes the somewhat chiseled looks, but at the same time…its so upright/stodgy in appearance, but then again this is only a C220 CDI, maybe a C350 Sport/C63 AMG model would tighten up/buckle down the looks so that it can effectively look comparable to a sporty 3-Series or G35, or even an IS350 or TL or A4. I’m really torn on this one and most cars don’t do that to me
