UPDATED: 2008 Mercedes C-Class spied in the U.S.

05/11/2006, 6:20 PM

By admin

(Updated from original 1:44 p.m. posting with new images). Mercedes-Benz has been hard at work testing its 2008 C-Class in Europe in preparation for an official launch some time next year (possibly at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show). Yesterday, Leftlane readers Pietro Devine and Kraig Turner spotted a very similar car just outside of Philadelphia. To our knowledge, this is the first time the car has been photographed on this side of the Atlantic. In total there are seven photos of the car, which were taken by Devine and Turner. We found the fourth image particularly interesting, as it shows how incredibly short the front overhang is on the car. “They were very very aggressive in trying to get away and block the car with other Mercedes as we chased them and took pictures with our phones,” explained Devine. Image gallery after the jump…

At this point, the real question is “Who cares?” These days, Mercs like C-class are marketed to and purchased by yuppy wannabes who couldnt care less about whatever details this article mentions i.e. they’re too busy shopping buying L.Vitton purses to be caring about the specs of their C-class. As one recent owner explained to me “Who cares? Look at the badge – its a Mercedes” and to him thats ALL that mattered – congrats DCX on truly successful marketing! LLOOLL!!

This is the Schuykill Expressway leading out of Center City Philadelphia. What in the world is MB doing outside of Philly with a top-secret car?

We had trouble snapping pictures of the front but we got a clear view of the grill and it was deff a merc and judging by the size of the car its a C class. Dont ask me why it was on 76 but we cought it in heavy traffic and they had trouble getting away because of it. Only time I ever liked traffic

Kraig: It is a c-class. Same car as spied in europe, except this time it’s actually in the states. :)

MB has a headquarters in Montvale, NJ where I’ve seen a bunch of masked cars. A few A and B class cars and some S class and Maybach vehicles under disguise.

Actually that’s headed into the city, and yeah, getting off the belmont/green lane exit. That’s a site you don’t see too often around here.
