2008 Mercedes C63 AMG spied

05/17/2006, 1:46 PM

By admin

Spy photographers caught the 2008 Mercedes C 63 AMG in testing this month. This is the least disguise we’ve seen on the new C-Class, and it’s also the most exciting model expected in the lineup. Like the other ‘63′ AMG models, the C63 is powered by a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 pushing 503 horsepower. This report seems to discredit suggestions that Mercedes would introduce a C63 model using the current body style. (See also our recent 2008 C-Class spy shots). See the full C63 gallery here.

what a waste of a V8

I wouldn’t call it a waste of a V8 (as long as the car and the chassis aren’t crap, as some might suggest the current C-Class are). I’d call it one of the better uses of that V8 since it’ll be in a vehicle with a good bit less weight than many of it’s other applications. I think they said they’d turn the motor up and down slightly for different applications as well, so I would expect about 480 hp, just so it’s less than the more expensive cars featuring the same engine.
Either way, that’s going to be one hilariously fast little sedan (well, little within the Merc model range at least).

The AMG C-class has never won a comparo with the M3 in all the reviews that I’ve read. The only things AMG’s have going for them are insane horsepower and badge snobbing rights.

Will it be faster than an M3? Yes.
Than an RS4? Yes.
Will it be better around a track over an M3 or an RS4? No.
And it wont have 500 hp either. I expect 425-450. They wont put all possible power into the car otherwise it’ll be faster than their top models.

You’ll see: M3 vs C63 vs RS4 vs IS500, and like always, the BMW will win the comparo.

Best front-engine, rear-wheel drive car on the planet? I think I’ll take the Panoz LMP, thanks.

CLK DTM AMG is probably quite fast but the BMW M3 CSL is still the recordholder for production car that can make the most G’s in a corner

I’ll take the IS500. Hopefully it’ll be a coupe. Sure it wont have those “cool” “M” or “AMG” badges but I’d rather look “cool” lightin’ up the tires rather than sitting on the side of the road waiting to be towed back to the dealership. The IS500 will be as close to bullitprof as they come. The design of the 3 series is boring, hopefully the C63 will look tight and I was never really a fan of Volkswagen..I mean Audi.
