I don't know why you guys are arguing about this. 75% of you guys probably don't even go over 65mph(on the freeway) any ways! 6 speed auto/DSG WACK! You all need to untuck yours and act like you got a pair! Doing 1/4 mile runs then get your jollies off by talking about how good you can drive...oooh I went in a straight line and pressed a button....PATHETIC! Ant to the dude from the UK...you came over here and got fat and lazy like the rest. Also imagine how F1 series would be if they actually used a clutch!

People who still consider convenience (Read: laziness/weak driving skills) can buy the car.

It maybe good business for Mitsu to offer an Auto for the "shiftless" among us, but I really don't want to see secretaries and greybeards using the Evo X as a stylish travel method of "convenience".

When I see a 'Vette weighted down by a slushbox, I shed a silent tear.....

You want to get a "convenient" $35k car, get an ES350.

Leave one car for true drivers! The "shiftless" have so much choice. Truly a spoiled lot!

An Auto in an Evo makes about as much sense as George Bush does (pick one, father or son) at a Peace Rally!

DSG sucks.

and im not too sure if im gonna want this car when it comes but until i see it in person, then i'll decide. but if its gonna stick to a DSG gearbox then no thank you. the current 6 speed transmission found on the evo can handle a lot of power and DSGs arent good for power upgrades at all. thats why buying the manual transmission on the gti is still the way to go, if, of course you want to upgrade the turbo.

YOU GUYS ARE ALL MISSING THE POINT. Yes, it is factual that the DSG is superior to a regular manual but Mitsu isn't trying to sell them because of better performance but rather so that people who still considers convenience can buy the car. It really expands the market for the vehicle, thus more $. DSG is really the middle solution for manual vs automatic, and for the marketing side as well. Now, I can finally get an Evo...

Ic#d0g is a silly fool. What does "manual" mean? If you're going to post your opinion, you can't confuse everybody with big long words like that. Why don't you say Non-automatedly unsteady-ratio autoswitching gearbox device?

Ahhhh...the ignorance of the average person never ceases to amaze me...

A car like the Mitsubishi Evo X will basically be a vehicle full of the top technology you can find in any car sold to the general public in this planet.

But when it comes to the transmission, I see so many people asking for a 6 speed manual: all the best technology in the upcoming Evo X is there, but you want age old stuff (=manual tranny) when it comes to changing gears ? Wake up people, the most advanced tech in trannies available today is DSG (and honestly as well the SMG and the F1 tranny in Ferrari's): it changes gears in 8 MILLISECONDS (basically it preloads the gear the car's computer believes it's going to be your choice) and it matches revs PERFECTLY on downshifts. No human being in this planet can do that to the same level of perfection DSG does.
And besides this, DSG offers the driver the same control you have with a manual tranny...
Finally, in F1 and Rallyes, semiauto trannies like this DSG have been in use for ages now...F1 is the highest form of motor racing and they DO NOT use manuals, let me repeat it.

By the way, I am a European living in the USA (used manuals for 20 years, now I have an auto...next car will be either DSG or SMG...)...and it's SO RIDICULOUS seeing so many Americans thinking that being able to operate a clutch is some kind of elite skill.
Where I come from, even 90 year old great grandmas can operate a manual...and it's more or less like that in the rest of the world. By definition then, if billions of people can use a manual tranny, that can't be that much of an elite skill.
You ought to be grateful that Mitsubishi is gonna make this car with a DSG...the best in the world, when it comes down to trannies...

A plain, honest-to-God 6speed manual gearbox...I'll be very satisfied. Offer the DSG-type system in the more pedestrian models.

DSG = faster than any gear changing with a standard manual gearbox with a top driver. So this "auto = wussies" stuff is a load of crap, you go faster with the DSG. Having said that I'd still take the manual because it'd be more fun and I suspect unless you're racing competitively the DSG isn't going to make a huge amount of difference.

Can we all agree that the DSG is superior to a torque converter automatic? Since the DSG costs more it will likely be offered as an option. You don't want, don't get. Case closed.

the DSG is not an automatic tranny with a manu-matic control. Its considerd a Manual tranny with an automatic mode. It is far better then automtaic and manual transmissons because it offers the perfomance and convinence of an auto with control of a stick shift. So in this case It will simply make the car a better all around performer and I highly doubt it will be shunned my ethusists.

i think that a lot of are forgetting that a DSG style box isnt actually an automatic, or for that matter, an automated manual. its a single footed, dual-clutch manual that shifts more efficiantly than a manual does, and makes driving a safer task while still letting you have a nice, spirited jaunt without losing feel and control, and i know this first hand. while i still love a pure 5 or 6 box, the DSGs are great trannys that had actually improved my driving.

I agree completely - I'm completely at home with any manual shift you throw at me, but DSG is a whole different ballgame. I tend to dislike autos simply because I personally don't feel in as much control during tight in-town driving and at times when I want to use engine braking on fast runs. Having said that, the VW DSG lets you make amazingly fast progress and still relies on you to pick your attack carefully to get the best out of the car - it may be fingertip control but you still have to nail the shifts just right, the difference being that you only have no drive to the wheels for 0.2 of a second rather than up to the 1 second it might take for a decent manual shift so you can be right back on the pace exactly when you want to be. Still that's just me - F1 drivers don't seem to have any problem with only having two pedals, and Ferrari spend a serious amount of money getting their autoboxes just right , so I don't think the accusation that they're for 'wusses' really holds much water.

Besides, double clutching might feel great and rev matching feel great when you get them right but you *really* wouldn't want to have to do them for the entire length of every single journey... :)

^ same thing British Rover said. I do enjoy manual but DSG is more efficient at shifting and therefore boosts economy and performance (notably performance).

I can drive a maual transmission just fine thank you. I can heel and toe downshift, double clutch and match revs on pre-1950's non-syncro gear boxes as well. I do enjoy the driver to machine connection that a tradition manual allows but the DSG does have its advantages.

I can drive manual, and do everyday in my audi, and i'll keep driving manuel until the technology changes, and i can do everything i do on a manuel, in an automatic, which isn't far down the road, nobody, even all you so called car enthusiasts who will only drive stick, will stay with the stick, once you can do all your nifty little tricks with a variation of the auto

It doesnt matter that DSG changes gear faster or improves performance or saves fuel. These are all arguments from people that cannot drive standard. Stop being pussies and learn how to properly operate a clutch and smooth heel-toe shifting. Yuppies and soccer moms drive automatics. You're not gonna notice 0.3 seconds of a difference in shifting time but you'll get a whole lot more pleasure to manually operate an engine and control all of its horsepower the way you want it.

6 speed 6 speed 6 speed 6 speed....
I want a 6 speed!
Anyways I like this Mitsubishi, but it looks like all they did was put on a new front end and moved the back around a little, even though I'm sure it's more than that :)

the way the new fancy auto dsg's and the tiptronic like systems are getting so technoligical and change to how the driver wants to drive, the only way to go will be auto's by 2010, for the most part, a traditional manuel won't be wat most real enthusiats want, because the auto will be so much faster then the traditional stick and clutch
