2008 Mitsubishi Lancer to arrive in the U.S. first

08/09/2006, 9:52 AM

By admin

Mitsubishi will bring the 2008 Lancer Evolution to the United States before any other market — even the automaker’s homeland of Japan. The production sedan is based closely on the Mitsubishi Concept-X, and will be introduced in Japan in fall 2007 — about six months after it arrives in America, reports the Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper. That places the U.S. debut somewhere around late spring 2007 — possibly at the New York Auto Show in April, or even a preview at the Detroit show in January. Mitsubishi hopes to sell around 50,000 Lancers next year in the ‘States. (See also: recent spy shots of a Concept-X Rally Edition).

The new Lancer has a nice profile.
It would be a competitive car if the price is right.
Most of Mitsu’s current line-up have ridiculous MSRPs.
How can you sell your cars if your MSRPs are higher than Honda and Toyota?

So…let me see if I read this right…
The car will debut Fall ‘07 in Japan (lets just call this October for our purposes). This puts it’s debut SIX months after hitting the roads in the US.

So am I reading it right that we could see this car on the roads here in the states as early as April? This is certainly interesting to say the least. I wasn’t expecting the car to hit the US until August/september at the earliest.

I want this car, but does Mitsubishi do the same thing BMW does, in that after introducing a new car, about a year later they introduce a slightly more powerful one?

This car would be great if they give it a 7″ ground clearance.

I’ll take one in blue please…
Awesome car it’s better than the toaster on wheels of a car they call the Lancer they are offering now. Current Lancer Evo is a beautiful engine, with ugly sheet metal on the outside. The evos engine is awesome, especially the FQ400 (these models stand for F*ckin quick) which produces 400 hp, which is 200 hp per liter. One of the highest specific output per liter for an engine in a road car.
Anyways awesome concept, just make the production model the same don’t change too much on the car

All they have to do is get rid of that silly spoiler, all the plastic cladding, the hood scoops, air intakes, and rework the front end and you’d have a car that’s tolerable.

The regular joe version of this car has to get 30/40 mpg, or it’s junk.

The police are sure to camp out in a 1/2 mile radius from all the dealers the second this thing hits the showroom floor.

#17 I sincerely doubt the new Evo will smoke the STi easily. The two cars have always been fairly on par with each other, the choice between the two coming down to personal preference as to the feel of the vehicle. Both the new Evo, and the new STi, are going to be excellent pocket rockets. Can’t wait to take them for a spin.

But the new Evolution X is on an all new platform and an all new car. The Subaru Impreza has undergone several facelifts already and a new model is in the works but it will be some time before they fire back. So the advantage goes to Mitsu.

This can save Mitsubishi from this peril their in with the American market if the car is done right. The current Evo has awesome numbers and a killer potent engine, but is wrapped in ugly sheet metal

I wonder what price they are going to sell it in Canada… look at Sti, they sell 32999 in US but over 45000 in Canada, hey the currency is only 0.9 to 1 … you guys think they are going to fix that in the EVO X?
it would be awesome if they sell the car at around 36000 price which fit the currency wow, i will go buy one right away! no, i will go buy two right away
