2008 Scion Limited Edition xD Release Series 1.0

05/16/2008, 5:13 PM

By Drew Johnson

If you thought a Scion couldn’t get any hotter, boy do we have a car for you. Toyota’s funky youth brand announced on Friday the launch of its Limited Edition xD Release Series 1.0. It might only be May, but the release of the limited-edition xD already marks the third limited-edition Scion for 2008.

The 2008 xD RS 1.0 features Hot Lava exterior paint, a DAMD body kit, rear spoiler, unique wheel covers and a TRD lowering kit.

The car’s Hot Lava paint scheme continues inside, with Hot Lava accented seats and interior trim. A RAZO shift knob is also part of the package.

If you can stand the heat, you better hurry down to your local Scion dealers — only 2,000 xD RS 1.0s will be built. The limited-edition xD will also carry a $1,999 premium over lesser xD models, with the automatic version listing from $15,350 while the manual will sticker from $14,550.

I love how toyota compensates a poor quality vehicle with a cheap sticker tag. Ive personally sat in a scion. Being a car salesman i sit in alot of different cars. The craftsman ship is terrible. There bodys are made of plastic, and all score horrible on there safety ratings. GREAT NEWS PARENTS, YOU CAN RISK YOUR KIDS LIFE AND SAVE MONEY AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!! Great jobs yet again guys. Take it back to Japan and kill your own people. We wont fall for it

Well Toyota did screwed this one up. xA was actually fun to drive. xD not so much – bigger and softer and heavier so stronger engine does not feel THAT stronger. When xA was doing special editions Scion dropped in sunroof and better stereo. Plastic kit and another set of wheel covers on steel rim not exactly inspiring. 5 years ago Toyota wrote a book on how to create a brand, now they are writing chapter on how to kill it. This chapter does not require any patent: Ford closed deal on that one.

I’ve actually heard from a lot of people that the recent round of Scions are very cheap. A friend has an xb, pretty nice car, interiors pretty boring, but not bad overall. I’ve heard the xD is “that much worse”, looks just as bad too.

bolex- The average buying age for Scion is 39 years. That’s gotta tell you something about Toyota marketing.

JJC…. That makes perfect sense, seeing as how the average buying age for Toyota is 47 and most Lexus purchases are made postmortem.

Can someone here learn how to write and spell properly (including the writers at LLN)? My God, the spelling and grammatical errors on this site are unbelievable!! Gets in the way of comprehending what you’re trying to say … TIP: Read your comments carefully before you post!!

^^ A good number of those who comment on LLN suffer from diarrhea of the mouth… and just like what comes out of their ass, they rarely have the wherewithal to appropriately clean up their comments.

As far as the articles on this site go… On more than one occasion, I’ve told LLN they need to replace the one-armed, one-eyed, exceptionally dimwitted monkey they use with a real editor. The occasional typo is one thing… but the sheer number of typographical and grammatical errors on this site is inexcusable.

Scion’s target market is 18 – 24 y.o. singles. Their typical customer, however, is are 45 – 60 y.o. empty-nesters getting a 2nd or 3rd car to their Lexus or Camry. “Special Editions” like this one only highlight this gulf.
I can imagine Madge and Dick in their SCion SCenter:
“Oh look Dick, it’s so… orange…”
“It’s perfect Marge. With that traffic cone color everyone can see you coming, you can’t get any safer than that. And that shifter, well you can have some fun with that…”

Limited edition with hubcaps. Yuck! For that money I can get a real car in a Mazda3i (also with hubcaps). And what’s is so “hot” about this xD? Is that the color? It’s like driving a giant grapefruit on wheels. Scion, don’t bother calling anything you build limited, because your mother company is trying all it can to be number one. Also, a true limited edition car will become a classic in 25 years, will this be one of them? I don’t think so!

I realize its an auto, but I can’t remember the last time I saw a new car that didn’t have a tach. This just looks incredibly cheap. I like a few Scions but this definitely doesn’t qualify
