2008 Volvo XC60: new name, concept coming

09/13/2006, 7:57 AM

By admin

The 2008/2009 Volvo crossover positioned below the XC90 will use the XC60 nameplate, according to insiders Automedia and Brenda Priddy. Previously, enthusiasts believed the vehicle would be named XC50. The vehicle is referred to internally at Volvo by the Y278 codename. It will share a platform with the V70, engines with the S40/V50, and some components with the Land Rover LR2. According to the new reports, Volvo will show a concept version of the crossover at the Detroit auto show this January. The production version will arrive for the 2008 or 2009 model year.

It’s an interesting viewpoint from G Mill$ but I dont think the Volvo buyer and the BMW buyer are all that similar. I think that there’d be much more competition between a MB X3 type vehicle than with the Volvo. I see the XC60’s main competition coming from the forthcoming Audi Q5 and the Acura RDX. I see the MB/BMW (name plate and performance) buyer as a much different sect than those that consider the Saab/Volvo/Audi (safety, under the radar, not badge identified) brands.

Volvo get’s too much $$ for their little stuff. The V50 Wagon is a neat little ride but too expensive per sq. meter volume. Subie’s a better buy.

Yea, Volvo’s getting way too expensive for what they’re offering but they have some interesting interior details that no other cars have. All in all, if it’s free I wouldn’t mind using one.

We have a V50 as we needed the space (we turned in our A4 Cabriolet 1.8T begrudgingly) for the baby on the way. As a Ford family, it was the right thing to do rather than going to the A4 wagon, but I agree that it’s not a true quality competitor for the cost but it’s still a great vehicle.

Small-ish, which we like, and great gas mileage with a wonderful engine and interior differentiation (like mentioned above with a center stack that no one else offers) but I’m still pretty partial to the Audi suite of vehicles from a cost-to-vehicle perspective.

I have a 2006 Audi S4 Avant. If Volvo would just give the world more power (put the “R” engine or even shoehorn their 4.4liter V8 into any of their wagons), I would consider trading in my S4 for a Volvo. (well, maybe – Audi’s all-wheel drive seems to work better than Volvo’s)

well, if all of fords products take this long to come out, then is it any wonder why they’re doing badly?
