If Volvo would just give the world more power (put the "R" engine or even shoehorn their 4.4liter V8 into any of their wagons), I would consider trading in my S4 for a Volvo. As a Ford family, it was the right thing to do rather than going to the A4 wagon, but I agree that it's not a true quality competitor for the cost but it's still a great vehicle. Small-ish, which we like, and great gas mileage with a wonderful engine and interior differentiation (like mentioned above with a center stack that no one else offers) but I'm still pretty partial to the Audi suite of vehicles from a cost-to-vehicle perspective. I think that there'd be much more competition between a MB X3 type vehicle than with the Volvo. I see the XC60's main competition coming from the forthcoming Audi Q5 and the Acura RDX. I see the MB/BMW (name plate and performance) buyer as a much different sect than those that consider the Saab/Volvo/Audi (safety, under the radar, not badge identified) brands.
