Chrysler has yet to release official pricing for its upcoming Dodge Challenger, but one Chrysler executive appears to have let the cat out of the bag a little early. Steven Landry, Chrysler executive vice president for North American sales, says that the base V6 Challenger will sticker from $23,995.

Landry continued by saying that the 2009 Challenger will top out at $39,995 for the range-topping SRT8 model. The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 stickered from $37,320.

“The Dodge Challenger is just really hot,” Landry told the Detroit Free Press.

One of the Challenger’s biggest competitors, the Ford Mustang, retails from $19,650 for a V6 powered model.

However, Stuart Schorr, a Chrysler spokesman, says that Challenger pricing has yet to be set and we’ll have to wait a couple of months to hear official pricing. The 2009 Challenger will hit the market in late August or early September.

  1. I’ll only pay that much if it comes with dog-dish hubcaps, roll up windows, vinyl seats and radio delete.

  4. Well I know what I’m buying. If the SRT is only 3 or 4 more G’s, I’ll end up getting it. It better be white though and no stripe on the hood.

  5. doesnt matter coz im aimin’ to get the R/T. safe to say that it would be at least 27K

  6. They should have done this to begin with on the Charger. Instead they tried to ruin the Daytona and now even the Super Bee. At least it’s a hemi, rear wheel drive though. The Challenger is waaaay cooler than the Camaro in my opinion, which GM doesn’t even know what it will end up looking like yet. If there is that much of a price diff, I would get the R/T also, but for a few grand more, it’s a no-brainer.

  7. I hope y’all that are looking at the R/T or SRT enjoy that 10-15MPG.

  9. Raineman ,for real, more like 10-13 mpg. Chrysler sucks ass when it comes to interiors , durability, quality, materials, reliability, and yeah- powertrains. They’re lame. I hope they dissapear as soon as possible and make the world a better place.

  10. Whatever gucci, as far as drive trains, NOBODY could touch Chrysler in the 60’s, today’s a different story, but a 425HP Challenger would eat your civic si for lunch.

  11. Yea Gucci
WHen this dodge isnt in the shop getting fixed due to shoddy craftman ship it will almost kick you si’s ass lol
If this Dodge is 24k then good it will beat the new Mustang and Camaro which both will start at about 26-27 for the V6
It will be interesting to see the first comparison of the three.
I want to see which one breaks down and catches on fire or in the Camaro’s case how fast the roof will fly off
    Nice looking car though

  13. 10mpg-15mpg…hate to brake it to the chrylser haters here, but i aint gettin this car to be a snooty “..i get higher mpg’s than you do-haha..” group. you tree huggin prius worshipping duds. its a shame you dont get it, but thats okay…now go car pool your happy ass’ on this wonderful earth day!

civic si?…hate to brak it you guys but no matter what the hell you do to your civic’s, beat vipers, vettes, lambo’s,bmers….its still a civic. and its still a car my mom drives.

  15. “its still a civic. and its still a car my mom drives.”

this makes me laugh cause I saw a little 4-cylinder the other day with a bumper sticker that says “My other ride is your mom”

Comment by DjRags, posted on April22 at 2:07 pm
  16. People talking **** on the 4cylinder Hondas should look into what they’re saying. The civics and integras of the world are known to embarass alot of folks. ( If hooked up correctly ) This challenger gets to me with it’s total lack of interior style. I couldn’t even consider it for that very reason.

  18. Typical rice lovers ranting on how Chrysler sucks and how imports are the best thing since the T-shirt pocket. The point is NOBODY gives you 425HP in a mid-size car for under 45K except Chrysler. I’m not buying a Challenger because of MPG or even the lifetime waranty, I want a NEW muscle car. I don’t care about your cookie cutter, milf driving suv’s and commuter cars, everybody has them anyway. And how retarded do you have to be to actually believe a car would spend 1000’s of hours in the shop like some people say on here, get real. Better yet get a life. Keep driving your “certified used” honda’s off the dealers lot. I’ll be spending my money on a NEW car to drive at my leisure. Unlike the import humpers that work at Burger King on here, I don’t need another car, I want another car in addition to what I have.

  19. 250 hp for the base is great! The interior lacks any thought what-so-ever. As for the HP vs. MPG rants, who cares?? People buy cars just like anything else- the way they want. It’s like debating what house is better- a two-story or ranch? lol

Comment by HemiRoadRunner, posted on April22 at 2:46 pm
  23. 250hp is ok. For 23k not too shabby. Even though the Camaro’s V6 will have over 300hp, I bet it’ll cost more along the lines of 24-25k sticker.

  25. why get the SRT8 when a BMW 135i is:

    1. at least as fast, if not better, @ 0-60
    2. miles ahead in the bends
    3. world-class handling, steering, and braking
    4 much better interior
    5. much lighter
    6. cheaper base price–hell the dodge is almost the same price as the 335 sedan or coupe
    7. higher fuel economy
    8. badge snob appeal

who cares about 425bhp when it’s got two tons to lug around?

Comment by ClarksonForPresident, posted on April22 at 4:50 pm
  26. #9: stick the $2000 dinan software in the 135i and you can go embarass some RS4/E9xM3/C63AMG

  27. BMW’s are nice, no doubting it. But,

    8. badge snob appeal

this is the reason i dont want a bmw. i prefer to buy a car that I like, not what other people like. basically bmw’s arent for me.

theres always someone who asks, Why buy “that”, when you coulda’ bought “this”…Y’know, it is a matter of taste and opinion–and not about how much smarter and how much research was involved to compare vehicles, ratings, fuel efficiency, popularity….blah blah blah.

Comment by bolex, posted on April22 at 6:13 pm
  28. I know it pisses me off when they do that crap, why didn’t you buy a …….. yeah, I could have had a V-8 too bitch but I wanted a beer. If you buy a bmw because you want to look like a snob then that’s fine with me, not that all bmw drivers are snobs, at least I’d like to believe. The Challenger is bad ass and different. It’s a working guys car, that’s what I like.

  29. You MoPar haters are ****ing funny. My 300SRT8 gets fine gas mileage. How much mileage does it get you ask? Beats me, cause I didnt buy the thing for good gas mileage. Why dont some of you ****ling idiots get it through your bowling ball heads, not everyone is as poor/cheap as you ****s are and not everyone cares about how mileage your fugly prius or hundi or whathe****ever gets. You should have paid more attention in school and you wouldnt have had to take that job working at the truck stop swabbing the ****ters. Get a life. LOL!

  30. oh did i hit a nerve or not?
poor/cheap? you haven’t got a clue buddy. school? unless you’ve got multiple ivy league degrees (which i do), quit embarassing yourself.
did i mention i’ve got an E90 M3 ordered? 4L V8, 8400rpm redline, 0-60 in low 4’s, 14C/20H mileage (yes i can easily swing it) and none of that blue collar liability. you want to pay $40k+ for a mopar? be my guest.

  31. ClarksonForPresident, so your saying, your mother lets you drive her pimps car?

Comment by gbb, posted on April22 at 8:14 pm
  32. ClarksonForPresident, actually i think it hit the sensitive nerve on your part, (alot of folks call it insecurity) coz you just kicked full into the “i got more stuff than you” mode…..which brings it back to, i aint that kind of person. it’s cool you got that stuff though.

even though i work behind a computer all day in the white collar world, i never let go of my roots. Like HemiRoadRunner said, “It’s a working guys car, that’s what I like.” Camaro and Mustangs are cool, but damn that Chally is too damn sweet!

Comment by bolex, posted on April22 at 8:41 pm
  33. lol “low 4’s” Almost every car mag review clocked the 0-60 of the E90 M3 in 4.5-4.8 sec range, that’s not low 4’s. Low 4’s is the 4.1 or 4.0 seconds that a stock 2008 Corvette does.

Comment by Need4SSpeed, posted on April22 at 8:44 pm
  34. gbb,
the irony! this comes from someone who dismisses others’ education.
    N4SS,
edmunds, C&D and such all have the M3 at 4.5s or below (4.5 for edmunds, 4.1 for C&D), and that’s with the 6-speed stick. the new DCT box should knock another .2s off. only BMW itself claims a 4.8-ish run, but they are famous for understating their cars’ performance anyway. the numbers you read are probably straight from the press release.
    bolex,
nope, just to show gbb that “mopar haters” (or rather, folks who value handling, engineering, and interior over quoted bhp output) are hardly poor/cheap and uneducated. muscle cars are cool, but at $40k+ they are running with some serious big guns.

Comment by ClarksonForPresident, posted on April22 at 11:10 pm
  35. Clarkson: you forget one thing and that is where exactly are you- and I mean you as in you and I- going to put your great theories to the test? I’ve kept up with guys on certain sections of open unpatrolled (just luck I guess) twisting highway who had twice the horsepower and twice the car. Numbers mean ****, either yours or theirs. Put Robert Kubica in your Bimmer and I’ll take Robby Gordon in my SRT8. Bets?

  36. I’m waiting for Daimler-Chrysler split… Mercedes would be greater and won’t have this crappy American brand attached to their tail. I think it has slowed Mercedes from going forward and focusing in what really matters instead of thinking of another Small Ugly Sport-Ute.

Comment by Rafa LL, posted on April23 at 10:52 am
  37. Mercedes sucks, screw them anyway. All they did was use up Chrysler’s 9 billion cash reserve like a bunch of crooks. I can afford a NEW Challenger SRT. I bet 90% of the people on here that say, “I’d rather have…..” can’t even come close to affording the crap your spewing form your mouths. Next.

  39. To me i will agree with pretty much all of yall, but in my opinion, i wouldnt mind having both the new dodge challenger or the new camaro the only thing is i havent heard nothing on the new camaro sept when it came out in the movie. to me personally the SRT is a sweet model. but like most folks would like to have including me but cant afford. i am planning on getting the SE model when it does come out. Hell it looks the same as the R/T and the SRT on body style. just its an SE thats the only thing that makes it different. im going for look and cost. yea i might sound crazy but thats me. And yall dang well wont see me in no small 4 cyl prise. i need something that got a solid body on it. and forget the gas mpg its going to have a full tank on it most of the time with it just sitting in the drive way to be used for certain occasions.
