Malibu competes well with the Accord and Camry- How so? Its not outselling the Camry or the Accord and less than 2% import owners are buying it ?
I hate when statements like that are made out of the clear blue sky

Bad news 02WRXPSM, but the Malibu competes well with the Accord and Camry, the next Cobalt should stack up well with the competion, etc for GM. Ford and Chrysler are working hard and doing a great job of catching up finally to the competition, and the Fiesta will prove that America can make fun small cars.

I love that Vette. It shows me that American engineering is NOT dead, as long as they (the companies) resist the urge to shave every penny and make cars as cheaply as possible. The Vette and the CTS-V will take on the GT-R and 911 turbo and R8s of the world, and do it for cheaper. However, a few standout cars does not make up for decades of pathetic, dismal, bland and wasteful design.

Need4SSpeed, that is true need for speed, but some people would buy the Camaro because they like the design better then that of the Vette (not me personally I would take the Vette for that money, but not everyone is me). 02WRXPSM, the Stang, Camaro and Challenger will survive, they will just evolve to fit with the times.

^ actually ZR1 makes 638 horseys... Well to us 2010 is a long way off but to a company and especially auto companies 2 years is hardly enough time to get anything done, the Camaro program has probably been worked on for at least 4 years now, if not more. It's coming out whether gas is $4 or $6. Of course higher pump prices are going to not help, but you still see a lot of big cars, and Mustangs out there that don't get the best gas mileage. The cars will still sell. Obviously the car companies have to adapt and offer more fuel efficient cars as the the trends in the market do. You will probably like the Mustang just see like 80% of Camaros out there being V6's as opposed to being V8's. But to those of us like me and maybe you, where fuel efficiency does matter and chose more fuel efficient, and good performing cars.

Hell if gas was like it was even 2 years ago, of course I'd have a V8 RWD car. But i'm rolling with a small displaced boosted engine and probably will continue to do so as long as gas keeps increasing at this rate.

You are assuming that the Camaro and Challenger and whatever is going to happen to the Mustang are actually going to get made, and not get the axe. 2010 is a long time in the future, and if gas stays above $4.00 a gallon (or rises to a steady $5.00) you might find a lot of car lines are going to end production early or not get made at all. Frankly, any car over 3800lbs and making less than 100hp per liter should just be banned outright. Even the new Vette, the only American car that I can get excited about, makes 620hp with 6.2 liters and weighs 3400lbs.

^ That'd be tight, only problem is that it'd probably cost like 40-50k with they way it's looking like the Camaro is going to cost. At that price I'd take a stock Vette and call it a day.

Need4SSpeed, the LSA powered Camaro may weigh more, but there could be the possibility GM will do a lightweight high powered version, kinda like a Camaro version of the ZR1.

This new platform was developed with the objective of making Altima one of the best performing large front-wheel drive vehicles available globally."

02WRXPSM, you might not be too worried about the 2010 Camaro SS's LS3 w 400hp, but when the Z28 comes out with the LSA that will have the CTS-V 550hp engine then that might be something to worry about, and it'll def weigh under 4000lbs and not be a porker like the Challenger.

frylock350, the RDX is the ONLY CUV in production to get five stars from all sides in both government and independent crash tests; saying the frame isn't up to snuff is pure ignorance. It is also not a small car by any means -- if the Challenger is bigger, and it seats fewer and carries less stuff, we can chalk that up to yet more inefficient and wasteful design. In any case, 4100lbs for a 2-door car is still stupid. It isn't like the car has bench seats and acres of interior room, like the muscle cars of old.

I'm certainly not scared of V8 Camaros right now, why would I care about a V6 one? And 20mph on the highway is hilarious. Don't you know a V6 Accord has just 36 less horsepower than that, and can get 28 mpg highway TWO YEARS AGO?

Hemi, I think you will be happy with it, it is what is it, cool looking, RWD V8 cruiser. I prefer a tigher feeling suspension, but that's what the aftermarket is for.

How the hell do all of you post comments at all hours of the night? Anyway, I am in the market for a new car and the R/T with a 6 speed is it. I don't buy things I can't afford otherwise I'd be buying the viper but I couldn't pay it off immediately. 23-25 mpg is fine with me, I have a 30 mile roundtrip to work. When I need something more fuel efficient, I'll spend a couple of g's on a used 4 banger and keep the rest of my cars but I'm not to that point yet. Impulsive, your a backyard jack@$$ that's always starting $H!T and still lives in your parents basement.

I've driven the 6MT R/T mule vehicle. It's sounds great, but doesn't feel that fast or agile.

@mayer_ray_nagin,
Even if the Genesis coupe has teh Tau V8, its no match for the 425hp pushrod monster under Challenger's hood. It wont' even be a close race, the Dodge will leave the ricer for dead.

@02WRXPSM,
That number isn't accurate, its 4100lbs according to Dodge. And an RDX is physically smaller than the Challenger (length X width). Don't kid yourself into thinking an RDX has a frame either, its a CUV, it has nothing resembling a frame. Its a flimsy unit-body construction just like anything else that isn't a pickup-truck. Look under a Tahoe or Crown Vic if you want to see what a frame is.

Cars in general are extremely porky though. A BMW 7-series weighs only 200lbs less than a Silverado 4-door, and the Silverado is clearly significantly larger. A Honda Pilot weighs more than my larger Caprice station wagon.

Don't scoff too much at the idea of a V6 Camaro, it will be packing the 300hp direct injected V6 the CTS uses. It should give it good performance with high-20s hwy mileage.

Wait, you're serious here -- 4371lbs? Holy crap, our Acura RDX weighs less than that, and it has SH/AWD and a full CUV frame. That's just shameful, what a freaking pig of a car. Why do US-designed cars weigh so damn much and yet get such poor crash test ratings? It isn't like our engineers are stupid; it must the the accountants, trying to shave every penny, that clutter up the design with cheap fixes.

Oh, and LOL @ the Genesis comment and double LOL at the idea of a V6 Camaro. I can't wait to absolutely smoke the first fool I see driving one of those.

Bolex: God would that be awesome, and if that stripper version did come out for that price I'd seriously look into getting one if gas isn't $6.00+ a gallon by then.

johnnycanuck & NoNameDenton1: That would be sweet, but we all know that Dodge wouldn't do anything as cool as what you guys are talking about(Although we'd all be for it). They will more than likely stick with just the V6 SE, R/T, and SRT-8 which will compete against the Mustang V6, Mustang GT, Shelby GT500, and eventual Camaro V6, Camaro SS, and Camaro Z28, man did typing all of those just excite me!

Yeah MugenSentraKen, I'm also trying to predict how the R/T
will perform, problem is the performance numbers on the Challenger SRT-8 are a little disappointing. Which its weight is what's hurting it. From all the mag comparos I've read I've seen a 4.7-4.9 0-60mph time. Although many of us were saying that hopefully the 6spd manual can shave some time off of that. If an 05-06 GTO can hit 60 in like 4.6 with 25less ponies and less torque (and also less weight 3690 vs 4371lbs roughly) Then we are probably looking at low 5's for the R/T which would put it in Mustang GT territory which is prob what Dodge wants, but costing more what will that do? I'm just using excelleration as a factor to compare on not that I'm saying it's the most important factor because it certainly isn't. But it makes you wonder.

So why don't they offer the 4.7 as an option on the SE? I can't remember what its numbers are in the Dakota, but I'm sure it would slot in nicely between the V6 and the Hemi.

what im hoping is that the huge price gap between models means there reserving models in between--i did read a rumor that there was possibly a stripped V8 (no leather...)that would place the convertible a little higher than the r/t (35K) and a stripper between se and r/t (25K)???....BUT it was just a rumor so...that said i'll probably have an R/T already in black...or silver...orange is too loud for me, maybe blue...man i cant wait!

Well I was pretty happy to see that the SE was stickering for 21k, I was until I saw what the R/T is stickering for 29k? Geez. 370hp and 404lbs of torque is nice but this thing weighs a ton and it better be quicker than a current Mustang GT or it'll be DOA.

Yeah HRR, how much you think that track pack is going to cost you extra to get that 6spd manual, and LSD?

Insurance companies killed the original musclecar era that begain in 1964. To make a long story short, I'll summarize. Drivers were registering their little 1964 Chevy II that had a little 250 cid 6 cyl, and dropping in a big V8 while paying insurance premiums for a little 6 cyl. Then, the assholes would wreck, kill themselves and other people, and the insurance companies were paying claims on car that were not properly insured. That's why the VIN number will tell the insurance company what kind of motor, drivetrain (RWD, FWD, AWD, 4x4), repairability, etc to determine the 'symbol' for the car. The higher the symbol, the more expensive to insure.

@BlackX
I saw regular 87 octane this morning at $4.51.

First off mayer_ray you’re a bombastic simpleton. The funny thing is I wasn't going pro or con against the challenger. All I was doing was saying was the obvious. I hope the challenger does well but what all you fail to realize because most of you are too young to remember we have been down this road before this is nothing new. America got its balls back in the early part of this decade with really cool all-American muscle cars. Then it all went to pot for THE SAME F*&^ING REASON IT DID 30 YEARS AGO. We didn't learn a thing. Now Rah Rah for the challenger and lets see it die again. Guys the challenger should be on alternative fuel platform. With the Horse POWER of Corse. We didn't do a thing after America's (MUSCLE) demise the first time and now they think they can ram it down our throats and call it American Horse Power and we should accept it all I am saying is that we should and could be farther ahead and we DROPPED THE BALL AGAIN....

mayer_ray: those seriously considering purchasing a Challenger are likely to regard any Hyundai on about the same level as a turd which doesn't make it through on the first flush.

renzogtr: we're all aware of the price of fuel. If I need to be reminded to check on a regular basis I'll buy a f*cking Coo-coo clock.
