Theres been some rumors of a late 09 Raptor hitting the showroom floors. I dont know how true that is. Theres always alot of gossip at the dealership. If i was a betting man i would say definately 2010. I can see them delaying this until 2011

I”m a long time truck owner and I’m currently driving a 07 Suburban (decided the passenger room was worth more than the bed). I’ve always wished my trucks had more power. Its really a pain to pass on the highway when your vehicle doesn’t have power. 300hp in a truck isn’t a size contest, its a useful feature. Doesn’t have the kick my LT1 Caprice Wagon does, but its nice.

Also the HEMI Ram is a fine truck. The HEMI is a pushrod V8 which gives it an inherent reliability advantage over the Ford and Yota trucks. Like Chevy’s pushrod V8s, its more efficient than you might expect. I have always preferred Chevy’s more conservative styling, hence I’ve stayed with Silverado/Suburban as my truck of choice.

Although I am surprised to hear about negative experiences with Tundra (assuming it was a previous gen), until the new current-gen one I though they were solid vehicles with the V6 engine. I bet Toyota’s kicking themselves for the redesign now. A 7/8ths truck would be an easier sell for them in the current market. They really went awry with the new one, they tried to build a Ram and it didn’t work.

Jimothy… if the manufacturers would stop trying to one-up eachother in truck size the stupid things wouldn’t weigh 2.5 tons or need 300+hp just to get around town. It’s like a bunch of retards comparing penis size when everyone knows it’s not about how big it is… it’s about what you do with it.
You can beef up the suspension and increase the payload without having to make the vehicle itself any bigger. A 1998 F-150 hauls the same amount as a 2008 F-150 and is half the size. Even in the world of trucks… bigger isn’t always better.

“Jimothy” If you need and want a truck, to use it like a truck. Toyota and Dodge arent even on the list. You have definately never owned a truck. If your looking for a “quality” truck. Ford and GM lead the way.

Oh yes, Dodge should give up and just stop selling big pickups. So should Ford. And GM. And Toyota. And Nissan. All because, heaven forbid, they can’t make a 2.5 ton vehicle get 45 MPG.

Look, some people need trucks for their business. Other people just want them, regardless of what you, oh wise LLN reader, thinks. Is it responsible to drive one? For some people, sure, but people are free to make decisions, even irresponsible ones or ones that you don’t agree with.

People will always need or want trucks, not in the numbers of the past, but to suggest that companies shouldn’t sell—or worse, shouldn’t be allowed to sell—trucks is absurd.

bolex, I have the first hand experience with Hemi RAM and it’s “drinking” habits, ’cause my best friend bought one. We don’t haul big things, but for sail boats you always need to bring some bulky crap (sails for yearly patch-up, diesel to the shop etc). I drive it a lot and it is a great thing. My body came to this truck via totally unacceptable experience with Tundra and Ford trucks before. So far very good. Truck gave us 20 mpg with 2 Yanmars in the bed and 4 guys in cabin.

off course theyre in panic mode, they got sold and purchased roughly a year ago when gas (hard to believe) was ‘only’ hovering between 2.70 to 3.30 ?! compared to Ford and GM who arent under new ownership, are only doing slightly better. gotta remember, in general, Americans like big cars. and as xyunya said this thing gets decent mpg for its size.

Of course they will. They have to compensate for a poorly built gaz guzzler. There have been no major improvements since its 96 “new” body style. The hemi engine was a poor idea, to give the perception of “Power”. They dont have best in class towing, nor payload. If your looking for a fast engine, you should second guess a truck, and get a sports car. Chrysler is having obvious trouble, and it seems to me there in panic mode.

Actually MPG of that beast is very reasonable. It does 20 mpg on highway with light load (4 cylinders shut off). I would avoid city traffic in it because it is a beast to maneuver (and it does sucks a lot of gas in town).
