arbiter- I know what you mean. I don’t even remember there being an option to NOT register and post, though, and I’ve been floating around here for nearly 2 years. I know, sounds pretty ridiculous, but it’s amazingly funny, and brings around a bunch of different auto news sites to pretty much one place.

Lots of recent cars. And I have posted here for a long time, previously under another name (when they made the new “ya gotta register to post” I changed my handle.)

I just find it amusing that a lot of people who drive an old ****box (and no knock on those who can’t do better) think they have the ability to pass judgement upon cars they have never driven, nor a I said, even seen!

Go back 30 years and the kid with the Lambo and Farrah posters over his bed can now use the ‘net to posture as a knowing, involved driver when they haven’t passed drivers ed yet!

Or atleast wherever *it* lives… However, don’t listen to his mongering about resale… Ford Fusion keeps more of it’s original cost compared to Camry and Accord, and has had no recalls, period.

Abiter- So, what cars have you driven that have been built in the past 30 years?

The Accord IS a GREAT car not was and not good. It is the standard bearer that companies like GM and Ford can only dream of building.
Im not here to mock the Fusion but Im sorry 3 years without a recall doesnt impress me and being that the Honda recall was from an aftermarket not OEM part and the problem wasnt major

To be fair you can only compare the year the Fusion hit the market vs the same year for Honda or else I would have to compare the Taurus to the Accord bc they were comp for years

I will say I do like the Fusion although its a little late and Ford should have thought of it in the 90s they have done a decent job at making it. Its still unproven and has to stand the test of time (5-10 yrs) w/o problems recalls issues anything to be considered inthe league of an Accord or Camry. Its going into its 3rd year so its been out 2
Ford is getting outlandish by saying their quality is that of Toyotas because they havent proven it and they shouldnt advertise it in their commercials. Its deceptive and while there are some idoits that fall for that most people know the truth
I will say that the Lincoln line is impressive and the MKX is stunning and its not that costly either.

Perchance you can tell me what interesting cars you have driven over the years…..in my experience, I have both 289 and 427 Cobras, a Ford prototype show car, one of the two Ferrari GTB365 (Daytona) prototypes and a GT40 (NOT Ford GT, a GT40) as well as several other unique and sometimes prototype automobiles.

1115 I am not here to knock the accord or praise the fusion. The accord has been an awesome vehicle and of great quality. I was just surprised by the amount of recalls and issues that this previous generation has had(some minor and repetative). I am sure 99% of americans would be surprised too. Zero recalls in three model years or two calender years is very impressive for any vehicle(the 2009 fusion is arriving early).
The fact of the matter is that this web site is accurate.
When ford engineered the fusion they spent a great deal of time designing the assembly line as well. It looks like they finally wanted to build a reliable car. After decades of sub par vehicles Ford has finally designed something with quality for a change. Regardless of whether you like the Fusion for its looks you should at least give Ford props for starting to build some quality in there vehicles.

Also the headlight equipment was aftermarket not oem and I dont see 10 listings for recalls Im not sure if you are like jjacy and trying to decieve or if you just were so anxious in praise of the Fusion that you rushed to judgement about the accord Either way you are wrong
Ill check the Camry out later
The Fusion has to have at least 7-10 trouble free years to be considered in the same league with Honda or Toyota Rushing and forcing the issue wont help it

2006 was the inception its been out over a year lol Its a Ford it will be recalled Ford and the domestics recall cars when they injure people in FOMOCO’s case when people are set on fire and their lives are valued at 200k due to a gas tank
The Honda has low headlights lol 2003-2005 when the Fusion wasnt even out yet
The Accord was comp for the Taurus

I just checked out some recall data and found some very interesting information. The 2007 accord has had zero recalls. The 2006 accord had 4 recalls and 1 owners manual recall(not a real recall). The 2005 accord has 10 recalls. The 2004 accord has 9 recalls. The 2003 accord has 8 recalls.
The 2007 Camry had 1, the 2006 had 1 owners manual recall(not a real recall), 2005 had 1, 2004 had 2, 2003 had 1 and the 2002 model had 3 recalls.
the Fusion since it’s inception has yet to receive a single recall.
Please feel free to draw your own conclusions.

I thought the Fusion Milan had the 3.5 but the guy above is correct the 3.5 is in the MKZ and the Taurus Sable and the Edge MKX cuvs I am pre
Ford needs to make one 4 cylinder and one 6 cylinder for all their cars and maybe put a cylinder shut down system in the trucks to get mileage up

I don’t mind the styling of the Fusion. It doesn’t make my heart go pitty-pat but it’s a clean, strong design with some nice lines. Better looking than the Camry for sure. I still think that Ford saves their more inspiring designs for the European market though. And what’s the point of the Milan? Ford should ditch the Mercury brand, they’re just fancier Fords. Mercury doesn’t doesn’t have any unique vehicles of their own so why bother?

crash1433 I agree that the Fusion is no doubt a decent car I drove one awhile ago back unlike many on here that bash it without ever driving one. But I must point out though that I feel that maybe the bashing you and I are hear now still comes from the anger through Ford OWNERS like myself that feel Ford is worthy of being bashed still since it bashed its customer base for years with no improvements to their products. Its kind of like saying here sucker buy a car from us now and we won’t stand behind it and as a matter of fact we’ll flip you the bird to boot after you were dumb enough to buy our marketing skeem. Then to make matter worse We’ll run from the competition Accord and Camry and you’ll feel like an even bigger idiot for ever owning one. ANd that is how Ford owners, shareholders, and I’d be willing to beat employee should and do feel! Betrayed! Sold out! are a few words that come to mind.

Mulally realizes this and is doing something about it by Keeping stalwart names like the Taurus but the proof will be in the pudding to see how well Ford handles the reincarnation of the Taurus. right now the Verdict is out. The thing is the Fusion is a car that should have never been- that is the new Taurus. I think the thing is at some point Ford has to have the best car design on the market to eliminate one of the names. I say they keep the Taurus name. However, with the increasing competition and even tighter profit margins on cars it will be a war I think of attrition.

@Autonut:
The Fusion/Milan has a manual for the 4-cylinder; the only available transmission for the V6 is an automatic. The 3.5L V6 is currently reserved for the Lincoln MKZ which is based on the same platform. They needed to give it something extra to justify the extra $10K.
That said, I will take a good look at the next gen Fusion, especially if it comes out with hybrid. I would have seriously considered the discontinued Accord Hybrid, but it was too expensive and it had Ok mileage for the technology. However, by 2010 Honda will have it’s new hybrid on the market as well…

I’ve seen this car as 2008 and wasn’t overwhelmed with its beauty. Although, I concede that for faithful it is probably the best car in the current US lineup. However, it is personal and absolutely not objective. The fact that Honda’s weekest 4 cylinder is 177 and strongest 190 is objective. However, Honda does not offer 6 speed slush box, Ford does. I am not sure if you can order Fusion with silky manual transmission, you can any order any Honda car with one (and I mean silky – I tested). There is no mentioning of actual mileage.
The reason Ford failed to mention updates for V6 is because there is not much to mention – I give Ford credit for not being complete retards and mentioning any good news when they come up.

Sorry if I piss anyone, was not the goal of my comments.

I leased a Fusion. Currently averaging 28.2 mpg with the 4 automatic-70% highway. Very comfortable. I raced a Nissan Titan pickup with the v-8 and lost by about 20 feet, zero to 60. The best feature is the Sync voice system. It’s works amazingly well with my cell phone. I would like the dash to be more wrap-around.

Have any of you sat in the Fusion? I’m one of the first people to bash any car.

But the Fusion is one of the most comfortable cars that is affordable. The front passenger seat is the right height and angle and has long enough cushion… something most Japanese cars can’t claim. The back seat isn’t bad either. Driver’s position is great. Dashboard is clean, simple and modern.

Only things I can find wrong with the Fusion/Milan is the large turning radius and mirrors that don’t fold.

This is for the 2010 model that goes on sale in January 2009. It will have a completely new exterior and interior – as well as the afforementioned upgrades to the engines. The 2009 model goes into production in about a month with ESC and relatively few other changes.
