2009 Mercury Milan VOGA previewed

08/11/2008, 2:37 PM

By Andrew Ganz

For years, Ford has been denying rumors that the Mercury brand would be killed off. Thought it has taken more than two years to come to fruition, Ford has finally introduced the VOGA edition, a new variant of the Mercury Milan that shows at least some investment in the waterfall-grille brand.

Leftlane was treated to a sneak peak of the 2009 Mercury Milan VOGA edition last week at Ford’s Dearborn Development Center in Dearborn, Mich. VOGA is simply a design-oriented trim package – one that Mercury expects to spread across its lineup (which is rumored to be rapidly decreasing). Special 18 inch chrome alloy wheels, light leather trim with an embroidered logo, black carpet, faux carbon fiber and exterior badging round out the features included. Underneath, it’s standard 2009 Mercury Milan and thus drives like one.

Though Ford’s long-term plans for Mercury are uncertain, it’s at least promising to see some investment in the rapidly shrinking marque.

Eish. Looks like a chick trim.

I like chick trim, but that’s totally different than what I mean above.

Good point, mayer_ray. I guess that’s why it starts with a V.

In keeping with Ford’s tradition of stupid names, VOGA is similar to the wretched “Volga.”

They should have made a DUB edition ridin on some 22’s to compete with all the trashy looking caddies out there. At least the brothas would have bought it then.

LLN.. had you simply walked down to your local Lincoln-Mercury dealer and picked up the 2009 Milan sales brochure, you would have already seen these features photographed. The catalog has been out for several weeks.

BTW.. the 2009 Mariner sales brochure (also readily available at your local dealer) already has photos of the Mariner Voga as well.

I remember the talk of this Voga edition nearly years ago and this is it?! It took them two years to put white seats in a Milan? Wow . . . this is all very pathetic.

The Milan’s a nice car. With that said, this is like the Pebble Beach edition of a Lexus. So, why does LLN have to be so negative about it?

It’s always surprising when a marketing team fails to turn over all the stones when settling on a new name. As many of you alluded to above, “Voga” is slang for vaginal yoga… exercises thought to tighten a vagina.
This is like when Buick began to market the LaCrosse only to realize later that it meant “masterbation” in Quebec… a region the car was meant to be sold in.

Jon.. Buick was aware of the slang connotations of the LaCrosse name in French Canada, which is why they marketed it as the Allure in Canada from the start. Chevy successfully marketed the NOVA throughout the 1970s and again in the mid-1980s despite its name translating to “no go” in Spanish.. and now look who drives all the used ones!

This isn’t bad, it’s just that it’s being hyped as more than what it is. It’s a nice level of trim, and it seems like the leather will have a nice touch.

What total crap. Reminds me of people who used to buy “Wolfsburg Edition” Jettas in the 90’s. You would say “Nice car, is this a Jetta?” They would say “No, it’s a WOLFSBURG EDITION” like it meant anything at all beyond some crappy badging and a couple of thousand more. Joke.

Zoomzoomer- Nova DOES NOT translate into “no go”. A petroleum company in Mexico actually sold their product under the “Nova” name at the same time… you would assume that people would come to the conclusion it means, no go, right? Nope.

As Snopes puts it, It’s like buying a dinette set, under the brand Notable. Nobodies going to assume it comes with no tables.

What’s so spectacular? It’s still the oversized-Tracer it was when it first debuted. What’s next? An SVT-built Super Sable?
